This summer it's all about the music in Cayuga County.
Outdoor music series are alive and performing at many surrounding areas. Almost any day of the week a person may enjoy meeting new people with great music in the background.
There's enough talent to go around to meet any person's needs from acoustic, rock, jazz, country, pop and even karaoke.
One of the bands that will be contributing is Gary Frenay and Arty Lenin.
Originally the acoustic duo started in a band called the Flashcubes that originated 30 years ago and took them into the 1980s.
Frenay and Lenin now play under their own names and have a song list that includes more than 1,500 hits.
From an early age both men grew up on The Beatles, leading into an early interest in music. Their almost infinite song list includes music not only in the definition of the “British Invasion,” but also includes jazz or country. Each show they play depends on the audience requests and the energy they are feeling for each night.
Frenay and Lenin are still a part of The Flashcubes and are still recording for a CD that may be released next year. For now, the pair just enjoys playing the music they love while giving viewers what they want.
Five questions with Gary Frenay:
Q: What's your favorite song to play live?
A: On any given night it differs. It's hard to say.
Q: What is the first concert you remember attending?
A: As a student at Geneseo I saw YES. I saw them for a dollar with my college ID.
Q: What is your favorite album?
A: “Pet Sounds” by The Beach Boys and “Revolver” by The Beatles.
Q: Who are your biggest musical influences?
A: The Beatles, Crosby, Stills, Nash, and Young, and Brian Wilson from The Beach Boys. Arty is a lead guitar player so Led Zeppelin and Eric Clapton are more influential for him.
