Voters need to learn their lesson after Bush years

Wednesday, May 14, 2008 11:58 AM EDT

When I think of a good elected official, someone who actually did something for the people he represented, the name Steve Netti comes to mind. He was a truly good person and a truly good representative.
When I think of a bad elected official, many names come to mind, but especially the name George Bush.

All the ills facing this country right now are a direct result of his doing. In his eighth year as president, this man has done absolutely nothing right and absolutely everything wrong.

He has put this country so far behind the eight ball it'll take decades to possibly recover. Does it bother him? It surely doesn't look that way. he and his number one hatchet man, Cheney have achieved what they wanted.

And that is to make the rich richer and everyone else poorer.

The oil barons, the corporate moguls, the fat cats of big business, the military industrial complex, Blackwater, Haliburton, have all been catered to left and right by Bush and his GOP cronies.

Two questions come to mind:

• Knowing that the GOP has a well documented history of catering to the well to do, why do voters, not of good financial status, vote for GOP candidates?

• Knowing how bad the GOP has been the last eight years, why is GOP presidential candidate John McCain getting so close that in pre-presidential election polls he might actually be voted in as Prez?

Don't voters ever learn their lessons from the past? McCain has pretty much stated he'll be carrying on G.W.B.'s failed policies.

At any rate, politicians at the state and federal levels, just aren't cutting it. New York state continues to bilk its residents out of their state earned income credit and gets away with it year in and year out. The federal government continues to raid Social Security funds that they should have no business touching.

Both New York state and the federal government are do nothing but bad big spenders and lawbreakers.

And these are the best qualified ones supposedly voted in?

I say if that's the case the reasons they got voted in for, weren't their intended reasons once they got elected.

" RD----I see the donkey. You're right. Ask Hil where the jobs are? By the end of this month, she will be in debt, and out of the race (her campaign cannot afford to pay her back). My only regret is that she'll be back in NY. Thank God its only NY she'll continue to ruin. Guarantee, she will be moving out of NY at the end of her term now that she doesn't need us. "

" mr donovan always tries to deflect the blame from where it truly belongs. Murray makes a great point in asking why you knee jerk cons consistently vote against your own self interest.

What has Bush done besides borrow and spend us into bankruptcy, getting us into an illegal and immoral war claiming over a hundred thousand casualties, wreak terror on his own citizens, made us reviled around the world, gutted the environment, made his pals vastly richer and we the people far poorer, turned the constitution into toilet paper, tortured and innocent civilians (US citizens and otherwise), made us less safe, etc. etc. etc....

I for one cannot think of a SINGLE thing that he has done for the average person in this country. His presidency is a disaster and he will go down in history as THE worst president ever, even less popular than Richard Nixon, a person who looks like a saint in comparison. "

" Murray you might mention that your precious New York State has been represented in the Senate for years by two certified Liberals who have promised you utopia for years and have never made good their word. Its so easy to blame Bush and ignore the donkey in the room. The state of the economy in New York is the result of tax and spend Democrats and fellow travelers such as yourself. "
