SKANEATELES - The Skaneateles Village Board of Trustees approved a budget of $73,850 for the new dispatch center and agreed to pursue a purchasing agreement with Finger Lakes Communication instead of holding competitive bidding.
The budget will allot $32,000 for new radio equipment, $6,600 for the center's security cameras, $15,000 for additional office equipment and supplies and $6,500 for contingency items among other expenditures.
David Card, a member of the Dispatch Advisory Committee, said the current budget was lower than the expected $75,000 to $125,000 partially because of a sole purchasing option with Finger Lakes Communication which currently does all the repair and maintenance work on the old system.
A large portion of the budget called for funds to be allocated for a new console system that would replace the old system purchased in the 1970s.
Jeff Willis, a representative from Finger Lakes Communication, said the dispatch center could purchase a Zetron console system for $14,000 which would be just as good as a $26,000 Motorola system which could be purchased from the state.
“We put this system together, we know how it works, we know what you want and we know what you need,” Willis said. “We were able to streamline the price.”
The budget will go in front of the Skaneateles town board on Thursday for approval.
Both municipalities will have to approve the budget before items can be purchased.
