Syracuse cruises past Canisius

Senior attackman Mike Leveille tallied a game-high six points on four goals and two assists as the third-ranked Syracuse men's lacrosse team easily dispatched of Canisius 20-3 in the first round of the NCAA Tournament at the Carrier Dome Sunday night.
The Orange advance to play Notre Dame next Sunday in Ithaca and continue their quest for a 10th NCAA title.

Junior attackman Kenny Nims, of Watertown, scored two goals and distributed three assists while junior middie Dan Hardy collected four points on two goals and two helpers.

Junior attackman Greg Niewieroski posted three points on two goals and one assist.

Syracuse's offense had 11 differed goal-scorers and 13 players recorded at least one point. Jordan-Elbridge graduate Kyle Guadagnolo had one ground ball.

Freshman goalie John Galloway finished with eight saves.

The Orange finished the regular season 12-2, including a 10-game winning streak.

The Golden Griffins on the other hand won a school record 10 games and finished 10-5. They earned an automatic bid to the tournament after defeated VMI to claim the MAAC championship.

Sunday's game was the first-ever between the in-state foes.
