Cruz was arrested at 3:30 p.m. at the jail and is charged with the felony of fourth-degree conspiracy He was also charged with second-degree criminal impersonation and unlawful possession of personal identification information, both misdemeanors, according to the sheriff's office.
Investigators searched a location at 656 School St., Skaneateles Falls, on Friday and recovered personal identification information and other physical evidence, according to sheriff's officials.
Sheriff's officials say Cruz was allegedly acting with associates, and detectives are seeking two other individuals from Skaneateles Falls in connection to the investigation. Further charges are expected, and the week-old investigation is still open, sheriff's officials said Monday.
According to the sheriff's office, public officials do not telephone citizens asking for personal information such as dates of birth or social security numbers. Anyone who has received a phone call from a person asking for personal information and claiming to be a public official, or someone involved in law enforcement or the legal profession, should contact Detective Jeffrey Applebee at 253-1132.
