SCIPIO -- Maybe it's some flowers or breakfast-in-bed -- the perfect way to show moms everywhere that husbands and children care on Mother's Day.
But for many, that also includes taking mom out to breakfast.
Across the county, numerous Mother's Day breakfasts were held.
At the Scipio Volunteer Fire Department, the cooking started bright and early as the doors opened at 7:30 a.m. to a rush of area residents eager to dig in.
Sharon Pettit, a lieutenant with the department and treasurer said that this is one of four pancake breakfasts the department hosts throughout the year, including one on Super Bowl Sunday.
But the Mother's Day breakfast might well be the best attended of them all.
"They are really well received," Pettit said. "It is really good to see the support we get for all of these. We've been really busy already today and we will probably be pretty busy all day."
The department was filled and volunteer servers were running around with endless plates of pancakes, sausage and eggs.
The Scipio breakfast differs at least slightly from many of the other breakfasts in the area. Along with being one of the few that offer French toast, the department's breakfast is also all you can eat.
"I think people enjoy having a little variety," Pettit said. "And it is all you can eat. Most people will have one plate and be filled up, but it is nice to have a little more if you are still hungry."
It is the attention to detail and the extra mile that the Scipio Department takes that makes so many happy to spend a Sunday morning eating there.
