Senior Ian Newland returned to the Skaneateles boys lacrosse team as it edged Cazenovia 8-6 Thursday.
After missing a year and a half due to a knee injury, Newland scored two goals to lead the winning Lakers. Keith Buehler and Thomas Schoener also had two goals each.

Eric Richards and Matt Wood also scored one goal each for Skaneateles. Kyle Baier, Kyle Christine and Ryan Callahan all tossed one assist. Josh Kimm had 10 saves.

“It was unfortunate for Cazenovia, but they were missing a lot of good players,” Doctor said. “They played extremely well, but we did take advantage of scoring opportunities. It was a hard fought game and all around good plays on both sides of the field.”

Kimm in particular played well defensively, grabbing key saves in the back-and-forth contest.

“It was close the whole game,” Doctor said. “It could have gone either way for either one of us.”

Skaneateles (9-4) travels to Cazenovia Monday.
