AUBURN - The jury deliberating multiple charges against a man accused of promoting prostitution and robbing migrant workers left the Cayuga County Courthouse for the weekend Friday evening after failing to reach verdicts on all the charges.
Jurors deliberated for about four hours Friday in the case of Clarence Brown, 56, who is accused of using prostitutes to distract migrant workers while he stole DVDs, CDs, clothing and electronic equipment from the workers' homes.

Monroe County Judge Elma Bellini said the trial would reconvene Monday morning. She released the jury for the weekend at 6 p.m.

Brown is charged with robbery, burglary, promoting prostitution and unlawful imprisonment.

The jury came back into the courtroom twice Friday. At 2:15 p.m. jurors asked to have the legal requirements of a burglary charge read to them again. At 5 p.m. they re-heard the definition of what was needed to find a person guilty of unlawful imprisonment.

The jury specifically inquired into whether or not intimidation could be used to unlawfully imprison an individual.

As Bellini read the stipulations for finding the defendant guilty of unlawful imprisonment she explained that an individual could use physical restraint or intimidation to subdue a victim.

The jury indicated that it had made a decision on some of the charges and could deliver a partial verdict, but Brown declined, saying he would rather receive his fate in whole. The trial will resume at 9 a.m. Monday.
