Leary earns medal, win for C-M

Andy Leary led the Port Byron boys golf team over Cato-Meridian 234-250 Wednesday. Leary was the medalist of the match for the Panthers shooting a 42.
Also leading Port Byron was Josh Malenick with a 45, Dan Wilkinson carded a 48, J.T. Debois hit a 49 and Dan O'Hara shot a 50.

For the Blue Devils (1-7) Paul Barbagallo led the way recording a 43, Chris Sperling earned a 47, Marc Walton shot a 50, Todd Wilcox and Casey Clark both scored a 55 and Ethan Holt finished up with a 56.

The Panthers (4-5) travel to Fabius Pompey today.

Union Springs 204, Moravia 215

Leading the Wolves was Eric Hlywa and Michael Bean who both carded a 38.

Also scoring well for Union Springs was Matt Cuff who shot a 39, Austin Thomas recorded a 42 and Tim Morabito finished with a 47.

For the Blue Devils Anthony Canestaro led the way shooting a 36.

Also playing the greens well for Moravia was Colby Bancroft who ended with a 42, Jake Heffernan earned a 43, Jeff Alvord carded a 46 and JJ Weeks shot a 48 with an eagle on the eighth hole which was a par four.

The Blue Devils swing at Wells College against Southern Cayuga Friday.

Weedsport 230, Manlius Pebble

Hill 240

Jason Ryan led the Warriors with a 42 and Matt Short shot a 45 at Meadowbrook Golf Course.

Jake DeChick finished with a 46 and Chris Johnson carded a 48.

Drew Lane ended with a 49 and Cody Fabian came in with a 52.

Marcellus 199, Jordan-Elbridge 276

Ryan Conroy and Eric English led the Eagles with a 49 each at Millstone Golf Club.

GIRLS GOLF

Union Springs 340, Marathon 254

Stephanie Morse was the medalist with a 51 at Maple Hill.

Katie Smith also led the Wolves with a 54 and Jamie Pearce shot a 55 hitting the first birdie of the year for the Wolves.

Also swinging well for Union Springs was Kim Bickal who shot a 65, Stephanie Quill and Lindsey Artman both finished with a 66 and Kaitlin Owens carded a 78.

Union Springs (7-5) travels to Mark Twain Friday.

BASEBALL

Weedsport 5, Bishop Grimes 4

Josh Fatcheric went the distance on the mound allowing only three hits with three strikeouts and two walks.

Fatcheric was also 2-for-4 at the plate with a double and one RBI.

Gavin Johnston was 2-for-3 with a double and one RBI and Bryce Leitten went 1-for-4 and added an RBI.

The Warriors (5-7) play at Cato-Meridian today.

Auburn 11, Central Square 10, 8 innings

Nick Rusinko pinch hit for Mike Hutchings in the bottom of the eighth with two outs and bases loaded to win the game. Down by one run Rusinko had a base hit to score Ed Charles as the game winning run and Matt Wild as the tying run.

Charles ended batting 3-for-4 with two RBIs, a walk and three runs.

Steve Komanecky, Nick Ventura and Bob Buckley each recorded two hits with Komanecky adding two RBIs.

Also at the plate for the Maroons was Anthony Siracusa and Rusinko who both finished with two RBIs and Ryan LaRue had one RBI.

The Maroons defense committed zero errors and their offense exploded with 14 hits.

Auburn (10-5 overall, 7-0 league) hosts Henninger Friday.

Union Springs 10, Southern

Cayuga 2

Jared Bretherton pitched a complete game allowing five hits, one walk, two earned runs and sitting down six on strikeouts while at the plate picking up one hit.

Leading the Wolves offensively was Eric Guyle who had a two run triple and scored twice.

Andy Klock finished with one hit, two runs, four stolen bases and Jim Burns had an RBI double.

Union Springs (2-12) travels to Newfield Friday.

Groton 12, Moravia 8

Jeremy Stewart started for the Blue Devils striking out four, walking three, giving up eight hits and allowing eight runs, only three of which were earned. At the plate he was 2-for-3 with two doubles and two RBIs.

Justin Stanton hit a two-run home run in the first inning. He ended up going 2-for-3 with three RBIs.

Moravia (9-7 overall,6-2 league) travels to Marathon Friday.

SOFTBALL

Skaneateles 5, Hannibal 4

Zoe Hilpl picked up with win going five innings, giving up just four runs, fanning eight, walking seven and allowing two hits.

At bat for the Lakers was Kate Driscoll who contributed two hits, two runs, one run knocked in and stole four bases. Terry Blessing had one hit and Erica Tardiff scored the winning run on a passed ball after she stole third base.

Hannibal 15, Skaneateles 5, Seven Innings

Alex Hughes struck out eight in the loss while having three hits, one RBI and a double.

Alexis Jones had one hit and two stolen bases while Caryn Crary finished with one hit and an RBI.

Skaneateles (2-7) hosts Christian Brothers Academy Friday.

Groton 12, Moravia 5

Jessica Kehoe threw two strikeouts and hit two batters for the Blue Devils.

At the plate for Moravia, Hannah Mackey was 1-for-3 with a triple and a run scored, Shealena Marnell went 1-for-3 with a double and Haley Potter led the way going 2-for-4 with a run and one RBI.

The Blue Devils (3-11) visit Marathon Friday.

Bishop Grimes 9, Weedsport 8, Nine Innings

Jordan Roe pitched a complete game for the Warriors throwing five strike outs, two walks and allowing nine hits.

Taylor Roe was 2-for-4 at the plate with an RBI. Chelsea Stocker went 3-for-5 and scored two runs. Alysia Jackson had two hits, two runs and two RBIs.

Weedsport travels to Cato-Meridian today.

BOYS LACROSSE

Auburn 16, Utica-Proctor 1

Connor Entenmann led the Maroons with a hat trick and one assist.

Andrew Chadderdon, Bob Brannigan, Josh Kehoe, Grant Krystofik and Chris Murdock all had two goals. Chadderdon finished with three assists. Brannigan, Kehoe, Krystofik, Matt Festa and Mike Fandrich all finished with one assist. Sean Hogan, Ryan Cuddy and Joe Lattimore had one assist.

Adam Perri led the Maroons with two saves while Kevin Dyer and Sean Yates both had one.

The Maroons took 32 shots, while Utica had only eight. Auburn had 46 ground balls and won 19 of the 21 face-offs.

Auburn (12-2 overall, 7-1 league) hosts Oswego at Holland Stadium Friday.

GIRLS TRACK AND FIELD

Port Byron

Mindy Meyers took first place for the Panthers in the 400m (66.7).

Ashley Leja finished first in the long jump (12-7) and Kate Riley came in second in the 100m (14.3).

Weedsport 80, Bishop Grimes 61

The Warriors took first in the 4x800m relay (12:39.6) with Erin Daly, Alyssa O'Bryan, Ashley Edmunds and Amy Sanchez.

Sanchez also took second place and qualified for sectionals in the 1500m (5:31.5) and she won the long jump (12-0).

Edmunds took second place in the 400m hurdles (83.2), second in the pole vault (7-0) and second in the 3000m (13:33).

The Warriors swept the 3000m with O'Bryan coming in first (12:41) and Nicole Greer taking third (13:34).

They also swept the high jump with O'Bryan in first (4-10), Kaitlin Hammersley taking second (4-2) and Kathryn Scarbrough in third (4-0).

Hammersley was also the first place winner in the shot put (28-3), which Weedsport also swept, with Allison Rosa coming in second (27-1) and Katie Schlegal finishing third (25-10).

Hammersley took first place in the pole vault (8-0).

Also leading Weedsport was Samantha Wezowicz finishing second in the 100m hurdles (20.7) and finishing second in the long jump (11-4.75), Christi Quinn took second in the 100m (14.6) and the 200m (30.8), Rosa finished third in the 400m (81.9) and Daly won the 800m (2:46).

Weedsport (5-1) is hosting their invitational Saturday.

Pulaski 94, Cato-Meridian 43

Somer Stuter led the Blue Devils with two wins finishing first in the 100m hurdles (18.1) and the triple jump (28-11.5).

Also winning for Cato-Meridian was Shelby Klaben in the shot put (27-2), Ashley Gillis won the discus (72-0) and Aubrey Campbell finished first in the high jump (4-8).

The Blue Devils (4-3) go to the Weedsport Invitational Saturday.

Newfield 71, Moravia 59

Moravia 83, Southern Cayuga 38

Two school records were broken by the Blue Devils on Tuesday in Southern Cayuga.

Claire Hunsinger broke the school record she set two years ago by a foot in the triple jump (33-3).

Hunsinger also had a personal best in her first place finish in the long jump (14-5.5).

Another school record was broken by Jen Cornwell, breaking her own record in the shot put (35-11).

The 4x100m relay team (54.0) for Moravia recorded a season best time with members Kelleyanne McElfresh, Julie Babcock, Alicia McLaughlin and Emily Dusseau.

Also winning for the Blue Devils was Dusseau also finished first in the 100m (13.80) and McLaughlin won the 400m hurdles (114.4).

The Blue Devils' boys track and field team had a first place finish by Logan Crandall in the discus (95-7).

Moravia (2-2) run at the Weedsport Invitational Saturday.

BOYS TRACK AND FIELD

Weedsport 100, Bishop Grimes 32

The Warriors remain undefeated as they took the win in the 4x800m relay (9:24) with Andrew Smith, Zachary Brown, Logan Thompson and Zachary Field.

Thompson also finished first in the 3200m (11:04).

Jordan Petrocci had two first place finishes for Weedsport in the 110m hurdles (17.1) and the triple jump (40-0).

Zachary Nevidomsky also had two wins for the Warriors in the long jump (19-0.5) and the high jump (5-10).

Jacob Ekross finished first in the shot put (44-2) and the discus (107-4).

Also winning for Weedsport was the 4x100m relay team (46.7) with Jesse Schooley, Ethan Gillette, Timothy Roden and Craig Mietz.

Other wins for the Warriors came from Michael Greer in the 1600m (4:52), Jim Bos won the 400m (54.1), Field finished first in the 800m (2:11) and Dominic Galletta finished on top in the pole vault (10-6).

Weedsport (5-0) host the Weedsport Invitational with over 20 teams competing Saturday.

Pulaski 104, Cato-Meridian 37

Andrew Gillis led the Blue Devils with wins in the 100m (11.5), the 200m (23.9) and in the triple jump (41-4), four inches short of the school record.

Freshman, Ben Mesmer had a personal best with a second place finish in the 3200m (11:12), he was a stride and a half from first place.

Also pacing the Blue Devils was Joe Bowden who finished second in the 400m (56.0) and the pole vault (8-6).

Cato-Meridian (2-3) competes in the Weedsport Invitational Saturday.
