I am running for the Auburn school board for the second time and I will let you know where I stand on some of the issues.
I support the turf. I feel it is a win/win for the whole community, not just the athletes.
When there are games played here in Auburn and these games make it difficult for families to get back home, they will stay in our motels.
They will be eating at our restaurants and taking advantage of some of the culture that our beautiful city holds.
More than just football can be played on this turf as well. We also will be able to rent out time on this turf to other schools and colleges. This capital project money is for the restoration of Holland Stadium and the other schools.
If we don't use this grant, it will be gone and we won't get the chance for it again. Holland Stadium needs to be back to the gem is was before with a few updates. As stated in the movie “Field of Dreams,” “If you build it, they will come.”
As for the dropout rate, we need to make it so our children enjoy going to school and get the education they need to make a good life for them and their children.
One thing that I think that would be a good idea is if there are students struggling with the regents why not let them get out of the regents classes and take the non-regents classes.
Not all children can handle the intensity of the regents classes. And I feel it is better for our children to graduate with a regular diploma than that they drop out because they are frustrated with trying to keep up.
The school within a school is a good idea, but I hope that by focusing on a few we don't lose track of the rest.
I would like the opportunity to be able to help with these issues that we face in this district. I don't have all of those degrees that the other candidates have but I have a good heart and I want you to know that I will do everything in my power to try and help our children and the families in this community. I will fight for what's right and not be a yes man.
