Maroons lose in extra innings

It was a close one for the Auburn softball team in their 9-8 extra inning loss to Utica Proctor on Tuesday.
The Maroons were down 6-0 before rallying back in the fifth to tie it up. The score stayed 6-6 until extra innings where it was a back and forth scoring fest between the two teams eventually ending with Utica Proctor scoring the winning run in the bottom of the 11th inning.

Brittney Babcock threw the entire game for Auburn with six strikeouts and allowing 13 hits.

Shannon McCormick and Maggie Race led at the plate for the Maroons roping three hits each.

Also swinging for Auburn was Nikki Neagle and Lauren Fedyshyn with two hits each and Jamie Bruno recorded two hits with a three-run triple.

The Maroons (8-7) travel to Central Square today.

Marathon 5, Moravia 1

Hannah Mackey had the only hit and scored the only run for the Blue Devils.

Jessica Kehoe recorded the loss on the mound throwing three strikeouts and two walks.

The Blue Devils (3-10) host Groton today.

Pulaski 7, Port Byron 1

Britney Helmer threw four strikeouts, one walk, one hit-batter and allowed two hits on the mound for the Panthers.

Melissa Deyo recorded three strikeouts, one walk and allowed three hits for the Panthers.

Offensively for Port Byron, Deyo went 1-for-3 with one run, Ali Short hit 1-for-3 with one RBI and a triple and Kristen Miles went 1-for-2 at the plate.

The Panthers (4-6) host Tully in a make-up game today.

BASEBALL

Pulaski 9, Port Byron 3

Jake Bennett pitched five strikeouts and allowed eight hits and seven runs on the mound for the Panthers.

At the plate, DJ Helmer went 3-for-3, Tab Carmon was 2-for-4 and Kent Pitcher finished 1-for-3.

Port Byron (5-7) travels to Skaneateles Saturday.

BOYS TRACK AND FIELD

West Genesee 79, Auburn 62

Manny Brooks led the Maroons with four first place finishes in the 100m (10.8), the 200m (23.1), the long jump (21-3.75) and the high jump (5-8).

Also winning for Auburn, was Lamar Henry who finished first in the triple jump (38-11), Nick Fresco won the shot put (45-1) and Chris Felter won the discus (109-10).

The Maroons collected some second place finishes as well with Matt Clark finishing second in three events.

Clark took second place in the 100m (11.0), the 200m (23.2) and in the triple jump (37-8).

Matt Warner had a personal best with his second place finish in the shot put (40-8.5).

Also earning second place finishes for Auburn were Scott Garrett in the 1600m (4:40.7) and the 800m (208.6), and Pat Turner in the pole vault (10-0).

The Maroons (1-4) will compete in the Weedsport Invitational Saturday.

GIRLS TRACK AND FIELD

West Genesee 90, Auburn 51

Pacing the Maroons was Marissa Rescott with two first place finishes in the 400m hurdles (76.8) and in the pole vault (7-0).

Also winning for Auburn was Patricia Fleischman in the 1500m (5:16.1) and Katie Brown finished on top in the high jump (4-2).

BOYS LACROSSE

Cazenovia 14, Jordan-Elbridge 12

Josh Livingston led the Eagles scoring two goals and two assists.

Also scoring for Jordan-Elbridge was Kory Smart and Joe Poppe contributing two goals and one assist apiece, James Hohm added one goal and three assists, Brian Belcher and Dylan Johnson each had one goal and one assist, Abe Patrick, Brian Murray and Jeff Guadagnolo pitched in one goal each and Dustin Duger finished with one assist.

Ken Bush tallied 11 saves.

The Eagles play Homer Thursday.

BOYS GOLF

Southern Cayuga 227, Waverly 261

Ryan Killian led the Chiefs shooting a 44.

Also playing the greens well for Southern Cayuga was Jordan Dean and Arthur Burt who both carded a 45, Zach VanNorstrand hit a 46 and Dan Le finished with a 47.

The Chiefs (9-3) play Moravia at Wells College Friday.

Pulaski 224, Weedsport 255

Jason Ryan led the Warriors, recording a 49.

Also shooting for Weedsport was Chris Johnson and Jake DeChick who both shot a 50.

The Warriors (4-4) host Manlius-Pebble Hill today.

GIRLS GOLF

Horseheads 211, Union Springs 244

Union Springs 244, Elmira-Notre Dame 271

On Monday, Katie Smith and Jamie Pearce both led the Wolves shooting a 59.

Also playing well for Union Springs was Kim Bickal with a 61 and Alex Kozanitis carded a 65.

The Wolves (6-5) travel to Marathon today.
