Two Cents

Liberals running the newspaper business won't tell you but the real culprits in the high gas prices, besides the Democrats in Congress who won't let us drill, are the states not the federal government. For example New Jersey charges $1.27 a gallon tax while the feds charge 18 cents.

Good citizens like Billy Kufs are always adding to the community woodpile. Unfortunately there a a lot of liberals around Auburn who are taking away from that woodpile all the time and the woodpile in Auburn is getting smaller and smaller.

When is the city going to shut the 1/2 inch treated water line that runs into the creek all through the winter on South Hunter Avenue at the bridge. Talk about a waste of money!

You heard it here first. Look for Barry Bonds to sign with the Detroit Tigers.

George and Laura Bush are first to criticize a poor country for its response to an actual disaster. The Bush administration response to Hurricane Katrina was a joke.

" I was unable to attend the council meeting last nite to voice opinion about allowing MORE trash haulers in by opening up our landfill. So I called the mayors office direct - thinking I would get his secretary to c if I could leave a statement and lo and behold, the mayor himself answers the phone w/a Hello! Although I am not pleased with the outcome albeit a temp solution, I was impressed that the mayor wanted to talk and seemed genuinely interested. I may have to dial that number more often... "

" As everyone knows who lives in Auburn, the ferral cat problem is tremendous. People feed these things and take them in for their birthing then get them fixed to set back out as ferral cats. Commendable to say the least but the area surrounding their houses is enough to make u want to puke. This town needs to get something in place - the SPCA is always full and that ferral cat assn d/n answer the phone. Cats are a dangerous thing to me because if I am in w/i 5 ft and my eyes get any of their stinky dander in them I develop blisters on my corneas. Sorry to the cats lovers out ther but oldtimer's comments were pretty funny - I on the other hand envision a large mouse trap w/a sardine on it - just kidding!! So what worse smelling cat pee or moth balls - yuk!! "

" I suppose you use the shotgun on puppies and small children if they follow their natural instincts and dig in your garden too?

I left the last place I rented because the drunken apartment manager shot the upstair neighbor's cat on account of being jealous of the attention his wife gave the animal. (Bit of an insecurity/lack of self-esteem problem there, as well as uncontrolled violence).

Moth balls work wonders; oil of peppermint on a cotton ball keeps mice away, and I've found bloodmeal (which you can get in the gardening section of Lowe's or Walmart or wherever) can be very helpful keeping deer away AND provides nutrient to some plants (read the instructions on the box).

There's no need to be killing other people's pets because they disturbed your garden. (A woodchuck is another matter). "

" A hurricane in September, 1947 flooded the city, most of which is a few feet/meters below sea level (and sinking). After the storm, hurricane-protection levees were built along Lake Pontchartrain's south shore to protect the city. When a storm surge of 10 feet (3 meters) from Hurricane Betsy left much of the city under water in 1965, the levees encircling the city and outlying parishes were raised to heights of 14 to 23 feet (4-7 m). Due to cost concerns, the levees were built to protect against only a Category 3 hurricane; however, the levees initially withstood the Category 5 storm surge of Hurricane Katrina (August 2005), which only slowed to Category 3 winds within hours of landfall (due to a last-minute eyewall replacement cycle).

" The difference between a Republican and a Democrat...

John Sidney McCain, Hillary Rodham Clinton, and Barack (whose middle name shall not be spoken) Obama were walking down a Washington D.C. street when they came upon a homeless person. John McCain gave the homeless person his business card and told him to come to his office for a job. He then took $20 out of his pocket and gave it to the homeless person.

Hillary was very impressed, so when they came upon another homeless person, she decided to help. She walked over to the homeless person and gave him directions to the welfare office. She then reached into John McCain's pocket and got out $20. She kept $15 for her administrative fees and gave the homeless person $5.

When they came upon yet another homeless person, Barack told the homeless person to 'have hope...change is coming'...and gave him nothing.

Not today, GiveMeLiberty! I am in the middle of crunching numbers and trying to project the cost of serials (journals, newspapers, magazines, continuations, periodicals) for next year. They always go way up, but with the dollar so weak (and showing no signs of improving), I have to figure in an even higher rate of inflation for foreign subscriptions. I am no mathematician and my number-crunching tolerance is about at its limit today. Someone else will have to take on the homework assignment! "

" dd, soy "milk" doesn't go bad because it's not "milk" at all--it's made by soaking soy beans and then grinding them with water. It's a lot healthier for you than steroid, antibiotic, and hormone-tainted cow's milk!
Cow’s milk has 61 calories. Soymilk has 33 calories.
Cow’s milk contains 3.34 grams of fat. Soymilk contains 1.91 grams of fat.Soymilk also contains more magnesium, copper, and manganese than does cow’s milk. In order to absorb calcium, one needs magnesium. Copper also aids in bone formation. One early sign of osteoporosis is a deficiency in copper. Soymilk contains twelve times the amount of copper, and 42 times the amount of manganese as does cow’s milk. Manganese is also needed for bone formation and is essential for neural transmissions, protein metabolism, and many other body functions.
Now, milk manufactureres will sometimes try to offset the gains of drinking cow's milk by "fortifying" cow's milk with various additives--but the bottom line is, when you have to add something, you're basically adding an artificial additive, which is going to be somehow synthetically manufactured. Why not just consume what is already there, and healthier?
We are the only species that drinks another animal's milk for consumption. DO you know that cow's milk SIGNIFICANTLY SLOWS DOWN the absorption of calcium from other sources, like vegetables? Cow's milk also slows down the absorption of iron,--but you don't hear that from the dairy industry do you? "

Abandon the shack we call home because The Man says we should? Are you kidding?!?? We've ridden out bad storms before....

I doubt if the government has a plan in place even now for folks like that.

That whole thing was a c*ck-up from start to finish and there is plenty of blame to go around at a lot of levels. The only people who seemed to really be on the ball were the animal rescue people -- The Humane Society, ASPCA and one other animal group were organized and efficient and saved thousands of animal victims while the government left people behind because the failed to have a rescue plan that accounted for people's loyalty and devotion to their pets.

In the aftermath, these animal groups continued their excellent organization and were able to reunite thousands of pets with their owners and to find new homes for most of the rest.

They did such a good job, that the government called them in to help them figure out how to make an effective plan for helping people, using the organizational skills of the animal people as an example. "

There are steps a state has to take for Federal aide. First by "declaring a state of Emergency" which the governor didnt do!
I happen to know truckers who were waiting at the state line with water, food, medical supplies yet the GOVERNOR said they could NOT come in!!! They waited for well over a week!!!
The levies were the states fault-they took federal monies and used it in OTHER areas-thinking the levies could wait a few more years, even though all surveys said FIX ME NOW!
Half of the police/fireman/medical personal ran for the HILLS-Guess that shows who one can count on in an extreme emergency! COWARDS!
Then instead of aiding others these lowlifes ROBBED every business! "My home might be underwater with grandma on a roof begging for help, BUT I NEED this BIG screen TV"!!
NOW they want to rebuild homes--with OUR tax money-again UNDER SEA Level..DAH! I wonder how many were un-insured?

GM already has developed the "Skateboard" an electric chasis that can be designed anyway the buyer wants it, totally interchangeable bodys and you can have 2 seats 4 seats in any arrangeable way you want them. Each tire has its own electric motor that increases saftey, stability and you can turn them on a dime! They use hydrogen fuel cells, the only emmission is water. Or if you prefer to run a gasoline engine, a man in L.A. has invented a car (I forget its name) that runs on gas just like our cars. The only difference is he drove it from L.A. to Chicago on 7 gallons. Big oil doesnt need our money to find new "green" energy like they claim, because these technologies already exist. In addition, the National Weather Service warned everyone about the severity of the storm, and alot of people didn't listen. The sub par condition of the levy is something the gov't needs to take responsibility for. Another funny point--wasn't it another famous african American who pulled the race card out--"President Bush doesn't care about black people." was the quote as I remember it. The president can't control the weather. I didn't see any big wig Democrats making any noise around the time the storm hit. They were all evacuated with their families before the storm hit, and flown back in to safe areas to look at the damage for photo ops with the poor residents. Blaming Bush for any delays in help is unfair. "
