Civil Service is Palesh's next "it's not personal" target. His first target was the firefighters by closing Engine 2 to save chump change and the insinuations about keying his car.
Some think it would be nice to see, once in a while, in a Sunday Citizen, a conservative letter by a local conservative writer from Auburn. Or once a year in your editorials, criticize a local elected Democrat, to balance off the hundreds through the weeks of a year that are written criticizing local Republicans.
You clearly show your ignorance when you condemn an entire political block because of the actions of a few. It would be like saying all letter writers are lazy whiners because of one who refuses to work for a living.
I am amazed and shocked to find that in Auburn and the surrounding area that there is not a Vet that is on call for emergencies that happen when offices are closed for our animals. There are plenty of good Vets right here in Auburn which all seem to and claim to love our animals yet in the most needed of times when our animals could be fighting for their lives we are told to drive them to Syracuse!

Boy. That's "love"!
"Here, son! Now go kill something!" LOL!
By the way, Queenie--I'm all ears, sitting on my couch with a steaming cappuccino, just ready for you to explain to me how "Liberals" are "ruining America"?!
OH?? YOU MEAN WORSE THAN THE CONSERVATIVE A-HOLES HAVE COMPLETELY RUINED IT ALREADY?!?!
Sorry, Queenie--the verdict's in on this one. CONSERVATISM IS BAD FOR AMERICA!
Deal, siisypants! "

Chris, it's SCARY what they've turned you into, man. Just a parrot for neocon propaganda. Do you want a cracker?
1Invoke a terrifying internal and external enemy--no, Hezbollah is NOT an "enemy" that we need to be concerned with. And Al Queda is just a response to OUR terrorists, the CIA. Fair is Fair.
Additionally, fear of the all encompassing "TERRORISTS!!!" is where this canard applies. I know you understand; you're just being facetious.
2Create a gulag--Gitmo IS an American gulag. Half the people there have been or ARE being held without any charges at all, or without access to lawyers or effective counsel.
3.Develop a thug caste...Blackwater employees. 'Nuff said.
4.Set up an internal surveillance system--FISA is counter-Constitutional, illegal, and God only knows what other illegal surveillance the government is running on us right now.
5.Harass citizens’ groups--Peace activists, pro-abortionists, and anti-Bush demonstrators have been targeted by the IRS for harassment. They have also been surveilled at public demonstrations and recorded by camera. God knows what files Cheney's thugs are keeping on average Americans?
6. Engage in arbitrary detention and release.--demonstrators at the Republican National Convention were arrested and illegally detained without explanation or charges in an empty, rat-infested warehouse in NYC in 2000. Other incidents have been documented by Alex Jones as well.
7.Control the press--oh come ON Chris, are you SERIOUS? How about the pressuring of NASA scientists to change reports of global warming? NASA scientists are media spokesmen too! And press club members have reported examples of how they are unwelcomed or barred from asking questions at press conferences. How about Armstrong Williams being paid $240.000 to promote the No Child Left Behind program? What--bribery is not an attempt to control the press?
9.Equate dissent with treason--again, are you serious, Chris? "If you;re not with us, you're against us!"--puhleeez!
10.Suspend the rule of law--again, Chris-it's scary to me how ou are just unwilling or unale to see the obvious. Uh, let's see--how about an illegal, aggressive war to start? How about illegal torture and waterboarding? How about suspending habeus corpus? How about the FISA program itself? There's MANY examples of Bush putting himself above the law! All on record--and that scumbag will hopefully pay for it when he's a private citizen! I, for one, will never stop urging he and Cheney's arrest as war criminals!
Sorry to see that you don't understand the difference between death and sex either. Just one off the many things you're confused about...
Chris, with 100% seriousness here--it frightens me, the lengths you will go to to buy into each and every neocon talking point that Cheney and his ministers regurgitate. I mean, if it ever came to that point, you are the FIRST PERSON that I would imagine pulling on the high black jackboots and cracking the skulls of your fellow Americans. I mean, what HAPPENED to you, Chris? It's frightening how you have apparently completely suspended your critical reasoning! Remember Chris--dissent is the HIGHEST form of patriotism! "

If you've never had friends or family who were involved in fringe politics, you have no idea what goes on with the government and our own citizens, but sit home thinking everything is hunky-dorey and we all just paranoid.
As the saying goes -- just because you're paranoid doesn't mean someone isn't following you.
Been there, seen that, much more up close and personal than I'd ever like to see again. I have friends serving prison terms in foreign lands for things that are considered freedoms in this country.
I've read "Promiscuities" as well -- I don't remember her saying anywhere that girls at the age of 14 are old enough to decide to engage in sex, but rather -- they do. It's a reality for many, many young people.
"Promiscuities" is a weak book; Elizabeth Wurtzel's "B*tch: In Praise of Difficult Women" is much better -- written at break-neck speed under the influence of a lot of drugs (she checked herself into rehab immediately after finishing the book), by a gorgeous, brilliant, messed-up young woman, in her first few chapters she describes so utterly realistically the double-bind dilemma faced by young women growing up in our culture and what happens to those who refuse to be bowed down by that bind -- it almost always meaning pulling the walls down on yourself, but you had the courage to refuse the lose-lose constraints put on young women in our culture. She fizzles towards the end of the book, but those first chapters are a powerful read. "

8 Control the press (Examples?)
9 Equate dissent with treason (When dissent includes calling for "Death to America", there may be a problem)
10 Suspend the rule of law (Examples?)
What a load of bunk from yet another self-loathing American liberal.
Funny that people like Wolf think young girls are mature enough at 12-13 to decide to engage in sex and to get an abortion. Young boys are mature enough at 12-13 to decide to engage in sex.
But when they are 17 or 18, they are too young, easily manipulated and don't full understand what they are doing when they enlist in the military.
There is no hypocrisy like liberal hypocrisy.

In the chapter on titled Arbitrarily Detain and Release Citizens, it gives the story of Mahar Arar, a Canadian citizen who was changing planes at Kennedy airport here in the US when he was detained then "rendered" to Syria, where he was imprisoned and tortured for over a year -- only to later have it come out that he was completely innocent of any ties to any terrorist organizations or activities.
He now has post traumatic stress and other health problems for the rest of his life, thanks to not being given due process when he was an innocent person.
Try also Chaplain James Yee, also arrested on "suspicion of espionage and possible treason" -- taken away, locked up, allowed no contact with family or lawyer, nor even television, where he was subjected to solitary, blindfolding, being kept in manicles, etc. He was lambasted in the media as a terrorist helper and was threatened with execution. This is a New Jersey-born American citizen who converted from Lutheran to Islam but committed no crimes and all charges were later dropped, though there was some micky mouse stuff about a falsified adulterous affair and other nonsense. In the end, he was declared innocent, but was not allowed to ever speak of his ordeal in any way that would make the US Military look bad. (He was held in a Naval brig).
Those are just two of whom we know.
This is why we cannot go torturing people who have not had a fair and proper trial and been found GUILTY of terrorist acts -- because if you haven't been tried in this country, you are INNOCENT (until PROVEN guilty) and should not be subjected to torture under any circumstances.
Debating whether it's "OK" to torture people who have been convicted of such crimes is another matter. The issue here is that it is absolutely wrong and indefensible to detain, torture and deny basic rights to people who have NOT BEEN FOUND GUILTY of a crime. "

I'll leave you with something by Rev Wright you probably never heard...
“The prophetic theology of the black church has always seen and still sees all of God’s children as sisters and brothers, equals who need reconciliation, who need to be reconciled as equals. . . Reconciliation means we embrace our individual rich histories, all of them. We retain who we are, as persons of different cultures, while acknowledging that those of other cultures are not superior or inferior to us; they are just different from us. We root out any teaching of superiority, inferiority, hatred or prejudice. And we recognize for the first time in modern history, in the West, that the other who stands before us with a different color of skin, a different texture of hair, different music, different preaching styles and different dance moves; that other is one of God’s children just as we are, no better, no worse, prone to error and in need of forgiveness just as we are. Only then will liberation, transformation and reconciliation become realities and cease being ever elusive ideals.” "
