Send Pabis a message, vote no on all proposals

Monday, May 5, 2008 11:39 AM EDT

Soon we will be faced with a decision to either approve or disapprove the school district's spending proposals.
We all know and feel the economic hardships with the ever rising cost of gasoline.

We have all seen the cost of food increase dramatically because of diesel.

You will have to decide how much disposable income you have, you will have to decide if you are willing to pay for parking lots, you will have to decide if you are willing to pay for concession stands, you will have to decide if you are willing to pay for press boxes and sound systems, and you will have to decide if you have enough money in your budget to pay for these items after you fill your gas tank and buy your groceries.

In my humble opinion, now is not the time for Mr. Pabis or the board to present any spending proposals to the public.

They should consider the economic problems this nation is facing. Economic conditions should be the first priority prior to submitting any tax increases.

Artificial turf, and the construction of parking lots will not improve our children's education.

With this in mind I am asking that this community once and for all send a clear message to Mr. Pabis by voting no on all proposals, tell Mr Pabis that feeding our children and scraping money to fill our gas tanks so we can get to work, have a higher priority than his projectors and concession stands.

This board, and JD Pabis have demonstrated time and again that they are out of touch with the common taxpayer.

Vote no on all proposals. Instead of spending money on improving the dropout rate, this board wants a parking lot; instead of improving educational standards, they want a concession stand.

Once they have accomplished this, they will tell you they need more money for state mandates, they will tell you they need more money for gasoline, they will tell you they need more money for insurance and contracts. So the turf isn't as free as they would like you to believe.

Please join me in voting against this budget and the proposals.

" Very nicely written! It is sad that we feel the need to compete in sports only. I too see that prices are up, if you can't your blind! What has Auburn done to combat any issues? We have kids struggling in school that need tutors in writing, Math, reading etc. Yet all we talk about is turf! It purely makes me ill and I wish I had the money to move away from people like this. I had thought Mr. Pabis was a very nice man when I met him but I do not feel he has our children's best interests at heart. Talk about ripping 200 children away from their friends. If that isn't a psychological nightmare, I do not know what is. Keep it up Auburn and our future is nothing but pharmacies and retail! "

" I am voting no because of the pork aka turf. Big hoo haa that they raised x amt of dollars privately but the turf is still in the budget for us as citizens to give a thumbs up or down. If it fails it will (again) tell them that they should be wiser with time and money and construct a budget that does not contain an item that was very much voted down in the past. Absolute irresonsibilty. So force your hand voters!! This reminds me of the irresponsibilty of adding that church project to grant money at the last minute this past winter against solid advise not to. what happens? Its all lost!! "

" Andy, You should vote NO and force the board to come back with NEEDful projects to spend the funds on--NOT a WANTED WISHLIST!
Take the time to listen to teachers and kids that attend ALL the schools. Drive around and look at schools and look at ALL the fields! Look at the grounds that yours or someone elses kids are playing on for recess.
Make a kist and present it to the board.
Trust me the board IS NOT ging to walk away from free dollars-thy WILL use it in other ways if they are FORCED too. "

" First of all I never once said building aid could be used for education. The crux of the editorial was unnecessary spending by the district. Because of the high cost of fuel, everything has be impacted, especially food and utilities. It isn't doom and gloom it is a reality. This nations economy is in the toilet and our local, state, and federal governments need to watch how money is spent or wasted. This 15 million dollar proposal is a waste of tax payer money. It should be tabled until the economy improves.
As for my residence, I don't remember telling anyone I gave up my NY residence. For that matter I still own my house and I still pay these high taxes.
Alot of people seemed to jump to conclusions about me no matter what it is. I simply love to play head games with the simpletons. lol

VOTE NO! And thanks Karl I appreciate the support!!!!!!!! "

" Great tlb4!
Then we can just cross out the line about funding the turf nonsense and keep the computers and technology, right?
Or are those truly beneficial items going to be held hostage to the damned turf maniacs? "

" Another issue is, do we give up money that we already spent on our taxes or do we allow another district to have it? "

Andy B wrote on May 5, 2008 3:51 PM:

" So I am conflicted, do I vote no b/c of the turf or do I vote yes b/c of the great maintenance, energy saving and educational equipment? It's a dirty trick how the school board combined this in one capital project. "

Andy B wrote on May 5, 2008 3:39 PM:

" True, I don't think we need turf but the rest of the capital improvement grant/project is great. "

" I thought we were rid of the master naysayer, I guess not. He is not even a resident and urging us to vote no. Jerry talk to Mr. Leogrande and ask if he supports the Holland renovation project now that private funds will pay for the turf.
Quit playing the gloom and doom card by insinuating that residents will not be able to buy gas or feed their children if the proposal passes. Don't insult the community's intelligence.
Do your homework, this project's State aid can not be used for education(teachers or programs) and you know it. Synthetic turf and new parking will not improve student's education, but computers and computerized projectors(which is included in the project) will.
Go spread your pessimism and half truths somewhere else!!! "

" How can they join you in voting against the proposals if you are neither a citizen of Auburn nor a voter in the school district? I am not shy about my opinions of Auburn politics, although I am no longer a resident, but I don't misrepresent my status as a former and future resident. If I am not mistaken, you have said you moved from Auburn in the past. "

" NO TO TURF!
NO TO TURF!
NEIN, NICHT, NYET, NUNCA!
How many ways do I have to say it before they get the message?!
Good one, Jer.... "
