State Assemblyman Robert Oaks, R-Macedon, said Monday that he will end his bid for the Republican nomination in the race for the 25th Congressional District, a seat being vacated by retiring U.S. Rep. James Walsh.
Oaks endorsed fellow Republican Dale Sweetland, the choice of the Onondaga County Republican Committee, for the House seat. Two other Republicans have expressed interest in running.
Dan Maffei is the lone Democratic candidate to emerge so far, and Christina Rosetti is seeking to run on the Working Families line. Maffei narrowly defeated longtime incumbent Walsh in 2006.
Oaks represents parts of northern Cayuga County in the state Assembly.
