Mike Leveille led the second-ranked Syracuse men's lacrosse with three points in its 12-11 loss to Colgate Saturday. Leveille finished with two goals and one assist as the Raiders snapped Syracuse's 10-game winning streak at Andy Kerr Stadium.
The score was tied at 4 at halftime, but the Raiders went on a rampage, outscoring the Orange by four goals in the third quarter.
Then, in the fourth quarter while trailing by four, the Orange battled back to make it a one point game, but were unable to gain the lead for good. With just under three minutes to go, the Orange tried to put things in the right gear.
Leveille, Matt Abbott and Dan Hardy scored three unassisted goals making it 10-9. The Raiders soon extended the score 12-10 after both sides exchanged goals.
The Orange then pulled within one goal of the Raiders with just 29 seconds left in regulation on a assist by Kenny Nims to Greg Niewieroski. Nims then took a final shot at the sound of the horn but Raiders goalie Tim Harrington made a critical save to end the game. Niewieroski and Abbott both joined Leveille with two goals in the loss.
Harrington finished with 16 saves and Orange freshman goalie John Galloway had seven saves.
Jordan-Elbridge graduate Kyle Guadagnolo ended the day with one ground ball in the loss for the Orange.
The Orange will learn their fate in the 16-team filled NCAA Lacrosse Championship today on ESPNU at 9 p.m.
