SOUTHAMPTON -- Police say two new parents left their baby alone in a car while they went to watch the Kentucky Derby at a Long Island off-track betting parlor.
Southampton Town police say the 2-month-old was left unattended for more than 20 minutes during Saturday's race.

Police say the mother later told officers she thought the infant was safe enough because the car's heat was on. The car was left running in a busy parking lot outside the Suffolk Regional Off-Track Betting Corp. branch in Southampton.

Parents Krystal Rose Downes and Jhimy Alban Vintimilla were arrested on misdemeanor child-endangerment charges. They have been released until a future court date.

No telephone number could be found for the couple, and police weren't sure whether the two had a lawyer.

" James - Having your child sleeping in their crib in your house while you're in the house/on the property and can listen for them is proper parenting. Leaving them in an unoccupied running vehicle while you're at the Kentucky Derby is quite another. My brain hurts just reading your comment. And no, I won't call the CPS because I feel they have better things to comment on. Not your backwards idea of child care. "

" C'mon, this is soooo Communistic!

CPS fools jump all over anything, and the public lets them get away with it, or has authorized them to go above the law, "For the wellfare of the child". This gives them absolutely free reign to do what they want, when they want to, at the discrection of the "CPS worker".

They have too much control, and NO immediate oversight to ensure they are making good decisions, if not "petty" decisions because they just don't like the parents!!! They are ruthless, and vindictive, and you never want to slight them in anyway, or you'll be in for a world of legal/emotional trouble so fast you won't know what happened until you find your children removed and your in court swearing that your a good parnent to a judge. In the mean time your kids are off with some run-down foster home, where your kids are being fed, clothed, and "whatever", by these money grubbing foster homes! Do your really think your kids will do well there??? Don't eve try to kid yourselves.

All the while the CPS workers are "grilling" your kids and use anything to make you look like the worst parent abuser ever!

Parents leave their kids alone all the time. Babies sleep for hours with women walking away for hours in other parts of the house, going outside doing yardwork, in the basement doing laundry.
Putting a baby down for a nap and you doing chores around the house could easily be construed as neglect. You think not, just try and run it by a CPS worker, I DARE YOU, c'mon make the call and find out, just make the call...I betch you don't have the guts!

It's getting out of control with people over-reating, and parents getting in trouble, just for being parents.

No ones perfect, and boy CPS makes it their mission to show how lousy any parent is, just give them a chance, and you'll find out!

Soon all your kids will be raised by the state, because any parent will be unfit to raise their own kids... "
