Warriors win first; Valentino picks up 200th career win

Casey Sears went 2-for-4 with a run scored, a stolen base and a double to help lead the Weedsport softball team to its first win of the season, a 7-4 effort over Tully Friday.
Tonya Hinman belted a hit, an RBI and scored two runs, senior Taylor Roe went 1-for-4 with a double, a run and two stolen bases and Allison Chase also had a hit and two RBIs.

Cassidy Thompson went 2-for-4 with two runs and an RBI, while sophomore Jordan Roe pitched the complete game, allowing just five hits and fanning two.

The Warriors (1-6) travel to Bishop Grimes today.

Southern Cayuga 15, Moravia 0

Lianna May tossed her second no-hitter of the season, throwing eight strikeouts. The Blue Devils reached base only on one walk and a dropped fly ball.

Jessica Kehoe threw the complete game for Moravia, striking out one batter.

For the Chiefs, who moved up to 13th in state rankings, Kim Willis led the way with three hits, including her second home run of the season, which resulted in two RBIs.

May also went 3-for-4, with a triple and two RBIs, Jessica Curry belted three hits including a double and Lindsey Doeing went 3-for-4 with a triple.

Beth Rocker added two hits including a double and Kayla Hildreth roped a triple.

Southern Cayuga (15-0) are at Marathon Monday.

Marcellus 2, Skaneateles 0, five innings

The Lakers began to muster up some offense when thunder rumbled and the rain poured down, halting the contest prematurely.

Alex Hughes ripped a triple to lead Skaneateles, while Caryn Crary, Tessa Dillon and Terry Blessing each had a hit.

Hughes also went the complete game, throwing three strikeouts and no walks.

The Lakers (1-6) travel to play Westhill in a doubleheader Monday.

BASEBALL

Moravia 23, Southern Cayuga 1

Blue Devils coach Rich Valentino earned his 200th career win behind the arm of Jeremy Stewart, who lasted five innings. Stewart hurled six strikeouts, allowed two hits and three walks in the win. Greg Pasho closed the game, fanning one and allowing two hits in two innings.

Taylor Mackey led the offense with three hits and four RBIs, while Justin Stanton went 3-for-5 with two RBIs. Mike Drake had three hits including a double and AJ Rouse also smacked three hits.

Pasho, Dillon Langtry and Joe Corson each contributed two hits, while Pasho hit a double.

For the Chiefs, Chris Aguilar paced the offense with two hits. Spenser Lawyer started the first five innings on the hill.

Moravia (5-0 league, 8-5 overall) hosts Newfield Monday.

BOYS GOLF

Union Springs 209, Spencer-Van Etten 251

Matt Cuff recorded three birdies to lead the Wolves with a 36 at Catatonk Golf Course.

Eric Hlywa and Michael Bean each carded a 41, Tim Morabito came in with a 42 and BJ O'Hara shot a 48. Mitchell Hares turned in a 53.

The Wolves (7-1) travel to play Odessa Montour Monday.

Bishop Grimes 215, Weedsport 228

Jason Ryan led the Warriors with a 42 at Meadowbrook Golf Course. Chris Johnson carded a 45, Jacob DeChick recorded a 46, Andrew Lane came in with a 47, Matt Short shot a 48 and Cody Fabian had a 53.

Weedsport (3-3) hosts Fabius-Pompey Monday.

GIRLS LACROSSE

Auburn 18, Corcoran 13

Flannery Nangle led the Maroons with four goals and three assists, while Kaitlyn Aldrich tallied five goals.

Taylor Baran recorded a hat trick, Nicole Schattinger scored twice and tossed an assist, while Christine Desocio contributed two goals.

Chelsea Smith and Kim Neagle each chipped in with one goal.

Brittney Baran spent the whole game in the net, recording 13 saves.

Auburn (6-6) is at Oswego Friday.

GIRLS TRACK AND FIELD

Odessa-Montour Invitational

Jen Cornwell won the shot put (35-1) to lead Moravia. Cornwell also took second in the discus (88-9).

Also for the Blue Devils, Claire Hunsinger placed in every event she competed in beginning with third in the high jump (4-10)

The junior also came in fifth in the long jump (14-4.5) for a personal best and fourth in the triple jump (31-2). She also ran a leg of the 3200m relay team that came in third (11.16.6) with Kelleyanne McElfresh, Kayla Slater and Alicia McLaughlin.

McLaughlin came in fifth in the 400 hurdles (1:14.3). Emily Dusseau took second in the 200m with a personal best time of 27.7, as well as having a fifth place finish in the 100m (13-3).

Moravia travels to Southern Cayuga to participate in a dual meet with the Chiefs and Newfield Tuesday.

BOYS TRACK AND FIELD

Odessa-Montour Invitational

Logan Crandall came in second in the shot put with a personal-best toss of 47-11 for Moravia.

Crandall also placed third in the discus (113-15).

Central Square 79, Auburn 62

Manny Brooks came in first in the 100m (11.1) in the meet on Thursday. Matt Clark took second in the event (11.3). Clark and Brooks took first (20-11.5) and second (20-6) in the long jump, respectively.

Clark also won the triple jump (39-3) and Lamar Henry came in third (37-6.5).

Scott Garrett came in second in the 1600m (4:42.2) and in the 800m (2:08.0). Clark took second in the 200m (23.1), in front of Brooks in third (23.8).

Kevin Hoercher was third in the 400m (56.3) and second in the 400m (67.6).

Pat Turner lept 10-6 to take second in the pole vault, just in front of Nick Kazanivsky (9-6). The Maroons took the top three spots in the shot put, led by Nick Fresco (41-3). Chris Felter took second (38-5.5), ahead of Matt Warner (37-7.25). Felter also won the discus (114-9).

The Maroons (1-3) host West Genesee Wednesday.
