Parking kiosks too confusing, too much hassle

Friday, May 2, 2008 11:51 PM EDT

I am writing in regard to the letter in the paper April 28 from Lee Parker, Auburn. I could not have said it better and agree with everything written. My son and I arrived on Genesee Street from Moravia to go to the VA Office.
“Where are the meters?” he said. Because I read Auburn news I knew about the kiosks. He found one, we got it figured out and put in money and (went) back to put it in the truck. Others arrived and were completely baffled. My son explained to them what to do. What a hassle!

I also wonder how much money was spent on this latest fiasco. Yes - you people make it even more difficult to shop in downtown Auburn or do anything there. No wonder there are so many empty shops and stores. Why not make it easier?

People shouldn't have to pay to go to appointments and do business. The mall and Wal-Mart lots are full daily. They can park anywhere and not pay to do so. Wake up Auburn!

" This has nothing to do with "change" or "progress"--Auburn is NOT that big to have a need for the kiosks!
If the hopes to gain tourists, try cleaning up and take more pride in downtown and give free parking.

Name me something downtown a tourist wants to see????
besides the memorial which they can park for FREE at the family restaurant and walk across the street! "

" The only change Auburn is used to is population decline, lose of jobs, and INCREASED TAXES. Leave the meters and let Auburn live like the are used to. IF and when Auburn thrives, then you can go to kiosks. Is Auburn a city full of youth that can say this is the right thing? "

" As far as the kiosks go. I live in a CITY that uses them everywhere. Typical Auburnians....Just can't take change. Its called progress for those of you...ahem...."Judy Bossard" that contunually resist. I know it seems to be a concept that people have a hard time grasping but if I were you, I would embrace it. "

" I firmly believe that any and all parking in downtown business should be courtesy parking from the merchants who should pay a monthly a dollar per foot frontage to the city. I also believe that decorating the area in your store frontage for the seasons of the year should also be the storeowners responibility. (Christmas, Veterns Day, 4th of July, etc..) "

" Man, if you can't figure out a stupid parking kiosk, you better just go back to grade school!
Sheesh! "

" Judy, you should wake up. Things do change over time. 100 years ago Judy would be complaining, "The removed the hitching posts from downtown, where do I tie up my horse." When parking meters were added, she would have said, "Now I have to figure out how to put coins in the little slots. It was hard enough getting used to no hitching posts!" "
