An early morning fire destroyed an unfinished home but did not cause any injuries Friday in Cato.
According to Cayuga County emergency officials, a fire broke out at approximately 3:20 a.m. in a house located on Dugar Road near Route 37. The newly constructed home was unoccupied and not completely finished, Cato fire chief Larry Wallace said Friday.
When fire officials arrived, extremely muddy conditions along the house's 1,500-foot driveway made it virtually impossible to drive the engines to the fire, Wallace said. Fire squads were transported to the scene in pickup trucks, he said.
“We had a difficult time getting to the house,” Wallace said. “By the time we discovered the house, the fire was going pretty good.”
County fire investigators have yet to rule on a cause of the blaze, but Wallace said it initially looked to be a possible electrical problem.
