The multi-sport athlete won the triple jump with a record distance of 39-1.5.
“This was only his second time doing the triple jump,” Wolves head coach Mark Gaffney said. “And he is two inches away from the high jump school record as well.”
Howell also recorded two more first-place finishes in the meet - in the high jump (5-10) and as a member of the 4x100m relay team (48.1).
The other members of the 4x100m relay team are Nate Markham, Scott Wood and Matt Heindl.
Wood finished first in the 110m hurdles (17.1) and the 400m hurdles (1:04.4).
Also leading the Wolves with three first-place finishes was Joe Feocco with a personal best in the 400m (103.8) while running a leg in both the 4x800m relay (10:45.7) and the 4x400m relay (4:26).
Sean Zimmer, Zach Casper and Jared Smith also ran in the 4x800m relay and in the 4x400m relay, Feocco teamed with Shane Groom, John Carroll and Josh Terry.
Also leading the Wolves was Vinnie Salato in the 100m (11.5), Markham had a personal best in the 200m (25.4), Joel Terry finished first in the 3200m (11:16.3) and J.P. Garropy won the long jump (16-10).
The combination of Moravia's small size and the poor weather didn't help the Blue Devils' chances.
“Moravia has a very small team and putting that with the bad weather we had didn't help them get great times,” Gaffney said.
Moravia's Logan Crandall finished first in the shot put (43-7.5) and the discus (110-10).
The other two wins for the Blue Devils came from Jason Phillips in the 1600m (5:09.7) and the 800m (2:19.1).
The Wolves (3-0) head into the Cato-Meridian Invitational Friday undefeated and looking for more success.
“We are in a position we haven't been in in a while,” Gaffney said. “We have a really good group this year and Howell is right there with everybody. He has the possibility of breaking more records this season and looking to be successful in sectionals again.
The Union Springs girls did not have the same success as they were defeated by Moravia, 75-50.
The Blue Devils won every field event as the Wolves had only four first-place finishes in the meet.
Claire Hunsinger led the Blue Devils, earning four first-place finishes - as a part of the 4x800m relay team (11:40), in the long jump (14-2.25), the triple jump (31-5.5) and the high jump (4-6).
