City needs to work on making trash day less messy

Monday, April 28, 2008 11:45 AM EDT

Tuesday, as I went to the store, I was very dismayed at the piles of garbage lining sections of our city streets - the landscape was ugly. The area looked like a disaster zone with some garbage bags opened, spilling out into the streets.
Surely garage collection should be much more efficient and in this day and age should be done better.

A few thoughts that entered my mind was that city council could purchase a few garbage bins on wheels (a few at a time) that could be placed on the sides of the house until pickup dates. This would eliminate the row of small garbage bags on the front lawns - which gives the city a rundown look.

The aesthetics would be greatly improved and all garbage contained and the city would retain its pristine look making it more attractive to live, work and play in Auburn.

It would also make it more attractive to companies considering a move here; a vital move in the beautification of our city.

" This is one instance where you could buy something worthwhile at Wallie Mart. Buy some trash cans and strong bags and put your trash properly by the curb. If you just throw bags on the ground and animals rip the bags open, then you either clean it up or you should be cited for littering. It's a cold hard world out there once you leave mommie and daddies house. "

" Again, Brew, would u knock off your nasty remarks when the locals have legitimate concerns? U r the fool in that you have zero tolerance. I agree trash day here in auburn is atrocious and although I was happy when the unified automated trash system was defeated d/t street width, I honestly do wish they would push some kind of unified trash recepticle - especially for these rental properties. Renters are cleaning their properties this year at a pace b4 unseen but the landlords really should provide cans w/covers. "

" Why should the city purchase them?
If that solves the problem let them pass a law that if you don't have a certain kind of trash container your trash will not be picked up. "

" First you fools want curbs and sidewalks provided for you. Now you want garbage cans supplied by the city. And when they want to raise taxes you will be marching to City Hall calling for the councils heads. When does the insanity stop? I also heard the cry for the city to shovel your sidewalks last winter. Should they also supply your trash bags? Why didn't you just stay at home with your parents so that they could take care of you for the rest of your life? "
