Moravia quartet leads team to victory in Union Springs

Kellyanne McElfresh, Alicia McLaughlin, Emily Dusseau and Jessica Higgins took first place in the 400m relay (55.01) to give the Moravia girls track and field team the win with a score of 72.5 in the Union Springs Relays Friday.
Claire Hunsinger, McLaughlin, Aimee Glenister and Kayla Slater finished second in the 3200m relay (11:14.47). Higgins, Dusseau, McLaughlin and Hunsinger placed second in the shuttle hurdle relay (1:14.98). Hunsinger and Higgins came in second in the triple jump relay (57-1). Samantha Smith, Julia Babcock, McElfresh and Dusseau took third in the 800m relay (1:59.18). Hunsinger and Babcock placed third in the high jump relay (8-10). McElfresh, McLaughlin, Slater and Glenister came in third for the 1600m relay (4:49.41), while Jennifer Cornwell and Danielle Stayton finished first in the shot put relay (55-9).

Kaitlin Hammersley and Kathleen Schlegel finished second place in the shot put relay (55-3) for Weedsport, who took fourth with 26.5 points. Erin Daly, Ashley Edmunds, Alyssa O'Bryan and Amy Sanchez finished second place in the distant medley relay (15:03.12). O'Bryan and Hammersley finished second in the high jump relay (8-10). Erin Daly and Alyssa Field came in fourth in the triple jump relay (55-2).

Miriam Larson-Koester and Nellie Slocum took first place in the discus relay, with Larson-Koester setting a new school record of 115-10 to lead Southern Cayuga, who tied for fifth with 36 points. The two finished with a172-7. Megan Lawrence and Emily Heslop came in first in the long jump relay (28-2.75) and Lawrence, Heslop, Nicole Hoey and Katharine Miller took second in the 1600m relay (4:43.22).

Monica Sacco, Katie Stoltz, Ashley Salato and Michelle Wilmot came in first place for the sprint medley relay (4:39.17) to lead Union Springs to a fifth place tie with 36 points. Salato and Wilmot finished in second place in the long jump relay (27-2).

Natasha Falter and Somer Stuter took fourth in the triple jump relay with a jump of 55 feet for Cato-Meridian, who finished seventh with 24 points. Aubrey Campbell and Brittany Rugg also took fourth in the high jump (8-8).

Jenna Fronce, Jen Locastro, Felicia Darrow and Katie Wyckoff finished in third for Port Byron in the 3200m relay (11:18.59). The Panthers came in 10th with 19 points.

BOYS TRACK AND FIELD

Justin Spencer, Jonathan Bos, Andrew Smith and William Bos took first in the 3200m relay (8:59.29) for Weedsport, who came in first with 92 points at the Union Springs Relays.

Lucas Baker, Abe Jordan, Jordan Petrocci and Zach Nevidomsky won the shuttle hurdle relay (1:08.80). Jessie Schooley, Ethan Gillette, Timothy Roden and Craig Mietz finished second in the 400m relay (47.41), Schooley, Gillette, Nicholas Roden and Dominic Galletta placed second in the 800m relay (1:42.12).

Mietz, William Bos, Zach Field and Michael Greer came in first in the medley relay (11:40.90). Oliver Jordan and Jacob Ekross placed first in the shot put relay (81-1). Collin Dillabough and Ekross finished first in the discus throw relay (218-2). Nevidomsky and Jordan Petrocci came in first in the long jump relay (39-11) and triple jump relay (74-9). Nevidomsky and William Bos placed first in the high jump relay (11-8).

For Union Springs (third place, 46 points), Scott Wood, Chris Warner, Vinnie Salato and Brandon Winter took second in the sprint medley relay (3:52.69). Winter, Mike Howell, Nate Markham and Salato came in first in the 800m relay (1:35).

J.P. Garropy and Howell finished second in the triple jump relay (72-10), while Howell and Winter placed second in the high jump relay (10-8).

Ryan Barta, Evan Bassett, Andrew Dean and Griffon Farlow took second in the 3200m relay (9:00.40) for the fourth-place Chiefs (37 points). Farlow, Bassett, Jon Mosher and Joe Troy finished second in the 1600m relay (3:45.43).

Andrew Gillis, Joe Bowden, Mike Davidson and Jared Bosco took third in the 400m (47.93) for Cato-Meridian, who came in sixth with 29.67 points.

For Port Byron (ninth place, 16 points) Mike Borst, Demetris Milachowski, Jim Schroeder and Robert Yeomans came in third for the shuttle hurdle relay (1:21.10) for the Panthers. Moravia came in tenth with eight points after Logan Crandall and Jason Phillips took third in the discus relay with a throw of 188-0.

SOFTBALL

Southern Cayuga 4, Union Springs 1

Lianna May led the 20th ranked in state Chiefs with 13 strikeouts and six walks in the win. She also scored two runs.

Felicia Allen finished the game with a triple for the Chiefs, while Amanda Forney finished with two hits for the Wolves.

The Wolves left 10 runners on base, though Jillian Thomas struck out eight.

Auburn 4, Baldwinsville 1

Meg Feocco lined a two out, two strike triple knocking in two runs in the bottom of the fourth.

The Maroons then added two insurance runs in the fifth inning and Shannon McCormick, Kelly Grinnell, Jamie Bruno and Lauren Fedyshyn all hit singles consecutively.

McCormick, Grinnell and Fedyshyn each had two hits, while Brittney Babcock picked another win for her season as she tossed a three-hitter and sat down six on strikeouts.

The Maroons JV team also won 6-1 as Ali VanGiesen threw a two hitter and struck out eight.

Marcellus 5, Skaneateles 2

Alexis Jones and Emily Devins each had a double and an RBI for the Lakers.

Tessa Dillon had a triple and Alex Hughes hit a single.

Solvay 11, Jordan-Elbridge 8

Erika Peterson pitched a complete game, allowing 11 runs, six hits, five strikeouts and seven walks.

At the plate Peterson knocked in three RBIs and had a triple, Elizabeth Caspari went 1-for-3 with one run. Lindsy Geery scored two runs on one hit, Sarah Fordyce knocked in a run with one hit, Alicia Andrianos scored two runs.

Keelia McGuire had one run, a walk and an RBI.

BOYS LACROSSE

Auburn 12, Cicero-North Syracuse 10

Bob Brannigan led the 24th state-ranked Maroons with four goals over the 16th ranked Northstars.

Mike Fandrich and Matt Hoey each recorded a hat trick, while Fandrich had an assist.

Connor Entenmann and Brendan O'Connor both scored a goal and Entenmann added three assists, Andrew Chadderdon had one assist and Kevin Dyer kept 11 shots from scoring.

BOYS GOLF

Pulaski 233, Port Byron 242

Andy Leary led the Panthers with a score of 43. Dan O'Hara and Josh Malenick both carded a 48, Dan Wilkinson rounded the day with a 51 and J.T. Debois put in a 52 for the Panthers.

Southern Cayuga 215, Tioga 237

Jordan Dean and Dan Le led the Chiefs with a score of 41 each at Wells College. Lewis Morse had a 42, while freshman Ryan Killian carded a 44 and Arthur Burt had a 47.
