Cayuga County's state of emergency expired Sunday evening after heavy rainfall over the weekend alleviated the risk of fires from trash burning and other open outdoor fires.
The ban did not include barbecues, grills and other contained fires.
The state of emergency was enacted last Tuesday after several fire agencies responded to a large outdoor fire in Ledyard when a resident was burning trash.
The dry conditions were also responsible for a 3,100-acre fire in the Catskills last week and several other fires through out the state.
Brian Dahl, the director of the Cayuga County Emergency Management Office, urged residents to use common sense when starting a fire and to never leave it unattended. Residents should also have something such as a hose or a bucket of water to put the fire out if they had to.
"We let the state of emergency expire because of the rain we got and the rain that should be coming," Dahl said. "Hopefully we will have no more fires."
While the worst of the dry conditions seem to have past, Dahl said the situation would be re-evaluated as the weather continued changed.
