HIT: To the crowd-pleasing performance put on by pianist Jon Nakamatsu at the Westminster Presbyterian Church in Auburn.
The Sunday concert was the latest in the Adams Foundation Piano Series, which brings world-class musicians to small communities and venues around the country. Auburn has been blessed to be one of those places to host this magnificent display of talent. This year's edition once again did not disappoint.
HIT: To the return of DIRT racing at Cayuga County Fairgrounds Speedway in Weedsport.
It was a perfect night for racing on Sunday, and the fans in the stand were delighted to celebrate this rite of spring.
We look forward to another great season at the track.
MISS: To another chapter closing in the sad story that is the Cayuga County asbestos scandal.
John Chick, the ex-county worker who pleaded guilty to illegally removing asbestos from the county Board of Elections building in February 2006, reports to federal prison today to serve out his sentence. Chick certainly played an active role in this crime, and he deserves punishment.
But all indications are that he will be the only person to suffer personal legal consequences, despite strong indications that people above him allowed the illegal work to take place, at the least. The judge in the case has already stated his regret that Chick is the only person who was put in front of him.
We've said it before, but it's worth repeating. The U.S. Attorney's Office has let residents of this county and victims of this crime down with the effort it put into this case.
HIT: To the short duration of the annual Syracuse University football team's spring scrimmage.
Citing injuries, the coaching staff limited the game Saturday to 37 plays. For a program struggling to win back fans, it was hardly a way to inspire interest for the fall.
