This letter is regarding the Gary Hill article (“Locke man killed in crash”) printed April 12, by the news staff at The Citizen. The article was printed the day after Gary tragically lost his life of only 25 years in a car accident.
I will never understand how one of your writers could have been so unfeeling to submit an article like that. It is one thing to report the news and another in how it is presented to the public. That article had no other objective than to report only the negative part of the past. Gary was trying to make changes in his life and for that he should have been commended. He was so young, only 25 years old, but he was responsible in his work ethics and his parenting skills.
We all in life make mistakes and that is part of what makes us human. Gary needs to be remembered for the loving and sensitive person he was. He worked and he supported his children. He loved his family and his friends and we all were and are proud of him. The legacy he has left for all of us is not one of troubled thoughts, but rather one of love and pride in who Gary Hill really was.
I hope that his children never have to read that article, written without any compassion, for they deserve so much more. Maybe you can all learn something from this whole terrible situation, and that would be ... to never lose compassion for another human being and maybe to thank your lucky stars that this didn't happen to your son or father, brother or friend. My heart goes out to all of Gary Hill's family and loved ones. May God be with them this day forward.
I am glad to see that The Citizen is printing the other side of the story.
