State police arrested two men Sunday night in connection with a fight that broke out near the Byrne Dairy convenience store and gas station in Elbridge around midnight the previous evening.
Police said Richard Salisbury, 41, of 13 Middle Lane, Weedsport, was charged with third-degree assault and his son, Ethan Salisbury, 17, was charged with third-degree assault, fourth-degree possession of a weapon, third-degree menacing and second-degree harassment after they supposedly assaulted a driver and bystanders who attempted to break up the fight.
Police said Richard and Ethan were passing the Byrne Dairy near state Route 5 when they stopped near a group of teenagers, one with whom Ethan had an ongoing argument.
As Ethan and the teenager began to argue, a second driver came up behind Richard's vehicle, which was blocking the road, and honked asking Richard to move.
Police said Richard and the driver then got into a verbal argument, which turned into a physical altercation involving both Richard and Ethan. Police added that Ethan allegedly pulled a knife on the teenager he was arguing with after he tried to break up the fight. Ethan is also accused of choking a second teenager who came over to stop the fight.
Police said they believe the driver suffered a broken leg after Ethan supposedly jumped on his back as he attempted to walk away from the fight.
Ethan and Richard were released after being arraigned in the town of Brutus. They are scheduled to appear in court on April 29.
