So I don't like the idea of muffler tips for cars, but how can police go after people who have them when motorcycles are so much louder and disturbing. The sound of a Harley actually scares me sometimes when I am driving.
Give your unexpired parking receipt to another motorist. Leave it at the kiosk for others to use.
Ann McCarthy is very passionate about her job. I have seen first hand, the positive influence that she has had in our community so how dare you imply that the smoking rate is her fault?
It was disgusting the other night that the racist dialogue circles that are just hate against the white man is run at a school board member's house. These dialogue circles are just hate to promote liberal hate of white people and conservative people.
Just like Democrat candidates for city council and mayor, the school system in Auburn gets a totally free ride from the media because one, Guy Cosentino and ultra-liberal education reporters consistently side with the liberal side of everything and refuse to criticize these candidates and school board members because they elect them.

Relax. A fascist/Stalinist/Hitleresque takeover ain't gonna happen. I'll eat Chris Van Note's shorts if it does, in public, at Holland stadium.
With all due respect, the weakness of your rebuttal tells me more than your protestations are worth. The bottom line is, your insouciance at having to report your gun sale is NOT commensurate with the lives of the murder victims killed every year because of illegal gun sales through undocumented channels. Wow... really? So, the Jews in Germany didn't think it would happen back then, but it did... the Russian people didn't think it would happen to them, but it did... the Chinese, the Vietnamese, the Cambodians, the Cubans, the North Koreans... see a pattern here? Anything can happen, and things like that usually happen when people are least expecting it, or they are tricked into thinking it's a good thing, or, what usually happens, is enough people are murdered so the rest are intimidated into going along with it.
How about the paranoia/fear about law abiding people owning guns, so much so that people are screaming for MORE government firearm regulation that has NEVER worked in the past?
I also don't subscribe with the "if you have nothing to hide, then" argument. It's not a matter of whether or not I have anything to hide, it's whether or not a law enforcement agency has a reason to suspect I might be doing something wrong. Until they have a good one, it's none of their business what I buy or sell. "

It seems the back-door sellers just want $ and no concern for safety. There have also been many LEGAL sellers at these guns shows selling ILLEGALLY.
I still say a background check is only worth last year until today. It cannot predict what might be 5 minutes after the person passed the check. "

If gun owners can legally get just about any rifle, shotgun, pistol, etc from a legal gun dealer--and so far nobody's complained about not being able to buy a deer or squirrel gun, nor a handgun,--then the controlled sales of guns should be of no inconvenience to any gun owner interested in lawful commerce.
Pardon me, gents; but there seems to be a fair degree both paranoia/fear about some "fascist takeover scenario" which, I might add, if it hasn't happened already, it ain't gonna happen, folks.
Secondarily, there seems to be a sense of entitlement to just be able to buy guns with absolutely the most minimalist of obstacles.
Well, I'm sorry, but if there is ANY WAY for criminals to be getting their hands on Tech 9's, AK's, and other mass-killing firearms, then there ought to be a way to track what arms supplier is bringing them into the country and what local outlets they have trafficking their wares.
A one year background check is so ridiculous they could have not even bothered with it. What a stupid law, but hey---some NRA lobbyist is obviously making the rounds somewhere?
"Every time I've purchased a gun at a gun show I've had to have a background check done, just the same as having purchased it at a storefront. "--right!- so where would be the problem then? And what do you have to hide if you wanted to purchase a gun from me? Fill out the forms, report it, and complete the sale. Tell me how the hell this little bit of inconvenience can raise such a ruckus when these sales are the sources for so much murder and killing? I mean, really--I have to wonder what the hell people who want to preserve this "loophole" (for lack of a better word) are thinking?!
Givemeliberty--you lost e with that whole dirt bike analogy--do you have some parts you want to sell me? "
GiveMeLiberty wrote on Apr 22, 2008 10:24 AM:
"What we can say with some confidence is that allowing more people to carry guns does not cause an increase in crime. In Florida, where 315,000 permits have been issued, there are only five known instances of violent gun crime by a person with a permit. This makes a permit-holding Floridian the cream of the crop of law-abiding citizens, 840 times less likely to commit a violent firearm crime than a randomly selected Floridian without a permit." ("More Permits Mean Less Crime..." Los Angeles Times, Feb. 19, 1996, Monday, p. B-5) (http://www.davekopel.com/2A/OpEds/More_Permits_Means_Less_Crime.htm)
I think it is also worth mentioning that in 1997 (1 year after the above article and 10 years after Florida's "shall-issue" law went into effect) the number of concealed carry permit holders was up to 350,000 and only one of them had been convicted of homicide.
So, over 10 years, assuming steady growth of permit holders, there was an average of 175,000 permit holders in Florida. Out of them, one committed homicide and 4 committed some other firearm crime. Although it is possible that the homicide occured between the two articles, making it 1 homicide and 5 other crimes. Either way. That is astronimically low.
I am not sure what the NRA are claiming with whatever material it is that you read. Perhaps they meant in the past year none of the 450,000 current permit holders committed a crime?
Can you tell us the source of your quote?

There is no loophole that allows licensed dealers at gunshows to illegally sell firearms to criminals (or anyone) without a background check. Licensed firearm dealers HAVE to do a background check with EVERY sale of a firearm, regardless of where they're set up. It's the private sales they're after, but they're purposely wording it as to be misleading, so people think there are rampant illegal gun sales by licensed dealers going on at gun shows, which is patently untrue. It's the private sales some in government are after, because they can't track them, and they want to know who has what, when they got it, where they got it, and from whom.
Every time I've purchased a gun at a gun show I've had to have a background check done, just the same as having purchased it at a storefront. "

GiveMeLiberty wrote on Apr 22, 2008 8:50 AM:
If you knew the answer to that, you would realize that anyone who uses the term "gun show loophole" hasn't educated themselves on the issue.
When a politician is talking about "gun show loopholes", they are referring to the fact that by law, you are allowed to sell me your shotgun or rifle in a face-to-face transaction. A lot of people go to gun shows with a gun they are hoping to sell. Certain politicians seem to think that this should be illegal.
You said you were a hunter, so I am going to assume that you own a shotgun. Now lets say that you really need some repairs to your dirt bike done. I live next door to you and you know I like that old Ithaca that you never shoot anymore. You offer to sell it to me for $300 so you can get new bike parts. Currently, you can walk over to my house with the shotgun, I can give you $300, and we are both happy. You take your $300 over to your dirt bike-racing buddy's house and pick up his old engine for $250. You and your friend are both happy. Welcome to the world of private commerce.
Here is the reality of the world you seem to be hoping for:
You and I both have to go to the nearest federally licensed firearms dealer. I pay the dealer $40 to run my background check, he signs the gun in and out of his log book, and I give you $250.
Then you take your $250 to the nearest federally licensed dirt bike parts dealer, where you and your friend with the engine meet up to do a transfer on the engine. You are kind of mad about having to go to a federally licensed dirt bike parts dealer, and wish you could just make the sale in your friend's garage, but after the dirt-bike-ninja-sword massacre in Oakland last year, you understand why you need a background check on dirt bike parts. Anyway, your friend shows up with the engine and the dealer collects his $35 to run your background check, which passes.
Your friend wants $500 for the engine parts though, because anything over 250cc is going to be banned if the new motorcycle control laws actually get passed this year.
You remember that politician on TV telling the public how there is no need for anything over 250cc in a motorbike unless you are a criminal trying to escape the police. It kind of made sense to you even though you were sad that you would never be able to buy the kind of bike you always wanted.
Oh well, you prevented dangerous object from getting into the "wrong hands" right? "
