Jordan-Elbridge and Skaneateles were the only two local teams to participate in the meet, which saw 10 teams participate overall.

Auburn also had one athlete that competed.

Darling ended up breaking both her personal best and the school record in the long jump (16-11) and the 200m (27.2). She also set a personal best in the 100m (13.1). Her jump in the triple jump (32-4) was nearly a foot further than anyone else in the event.

“Katie Darling will do amazing things for us this year.” Eagles coach Ben Alexander said.

Alexander credits her speed as the key to making her so successful this year for the Eagles.

“She gets faster leads, which in the long run, helps her jump higher,” he said.

Nicole Darling placed second in the 3000m(11:06.8) and third in the 800m (2:35.2). She also set a personal best in the 3000m. Lyndsay Hollis won the 400m for the Eagles (69.8) and took second in the 400m (63.2).

“Lyndsay has a lot of potential for us,” Alexander said.

Despite a young team for the Eagles, Alexander hopes that the team's five seniors can help out the 21 underclassmen as much as possible this season.

“We have a very good, young team,” Alexander said. “I want the seniors to set the tone. I feel if they see what (Katie) Darling and Hollis are doing then they might push themselves to have good performances too.”

Kim Foltz, Rachel Hare, Hollis and Nicole Darling came in second in the 4x400m relay (4:34.8).

“Nicole Darling, just like her cousin Katie, had an outstanding day,” Alexander said.

Also for the Eagles, Lisa Kimak tied Phoenix's Marisa Turner for fourth in the high jump (4-6). Auburn's lone competitor, Liz Mahoney finished sixth in the 3000m (12:13.3).

While there were no team scores in the meet, the Eagle girls took first place in the most events, with five. For the boys, Rome Free Academy won four to lead the pack.

Skaneateles had half of their squad compete in the invitational, while the rest participated in the Red, White, Blue and Gold Invitational at Vestal High School.

In Jordan, the Lakers' Gabby Eckles' finished third in the high jump (4-8) and sixth in the triple jump (28-8). Brigid Judge took fifth in the 400m (76.8).

Kristin Roberts, Corey Chapin, Carley Strods and Becky Flannigan placed second in the 4x800m relay (10:37.4). Danielle Sommer, Kristin Roberts, Flannigan and Strods came in fourth for the 4x400m relay (4:38.3).

“The girls represented us very well today.” Lakers coach Jack Reed said. “The triple jumpers' mechanics looked very well as did the long jumps and as did our pole vaults.”

In the boys' events, Cody Stanton came in second for the Eagles' in the 3200m (10:10.2) which was just one-tenth second from first place winner Chris Martin of Onondaga.

Donato DiRenzo finished in third in the 800m (2:06.6) for the Eagles, while Andrew Conlan (108-8) and Pat Cooper (108-5) came in fifth and sixth place, respectively, in the discus.

Cooper also took sixth in the shot put (38-7.5). John Flynn tied for fifth in the high jump (5-6),

Jake Griffin came in fifth in the 500m (55.3), Mike Marrero (5:00.00) and Greg Bader (5:02.5) placed fifth and sixth as well in the 1600m for the Eagles.

Sam Smolenski came in second place in the 800m (2:05.1) for the Lakers. Smolenski, Brae Kriever, Xander Edwards and Tim Wetzel finished third in the 4x400m relay (3:42.5).

Patrick Homeyer, Calvin Davis, Smolenski and Josh Youle placed third in the 4x800m relay (8:36.6).

Davis also took fourth in the 1600m (4:57.6), Shane Aaserud placed third in the pole vault (11-0), Kriever took fifth in the long jump (18-9.25), Sean Cooper came in fifth in the triple jump (37-9.5) and sixth in the 110m hurdles (17.8).

Matt Parker (36-2) finished sixth in the triple jump. Tom Halstead, Edwards, Kriever and Dustin Plunkett took fifth in the 4x100m relay (46.7). John Turose (9-6) came in sixth for the pole vault.

“Our second invitational went well,” Alexander said. “We had a lot of help from other coaches and the many the many volunteers that were here - the weather helped out a lot, too.”

Skaneateles heads to Christian Brother Academy Wednesday, while Jordan-Elbridge heads to Cazenovia.
