Many of our members have done the Southern shuffle in favor of warmer climates for spring break.
I can't say that I blame them although we have been pretty lucky with sun and warming temperatures the last couple of days.
There are still plenty of people here that are working on getting ready for swimsuit weather, golf or whatever their outdoor summer fancy is.
It is nice to know the Auburn YMCA-WEIU is available during all seasons and for everyone.
It is almost here - the Bowl a Thon to benefit our children's programs here at the YMCA will be from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Sunday, April 27 at Starlite Lanes.
We still have spots open for bowling times and are still taking reservations for teams.
There will be a DJ available as well as some great silent auction prizes and door prizes. We appreciate all of the corporate sponsors who have come forth willingly to support us in our latest endeavor and are looking forward to a very successful turnout for our first Bowl A Thon ever.
If you are still interested in forming a team, please contact Amy Pedley at 253-5304 to get in on this fun event.
We are hearing about a lot of people getting out to walk and even playing golf already.
There are so many ways to stay active without having to be on a machine. Be sure to take the time for yourself and your health to keep moving and keep fit.
This is part of our Activate America initiative. We hope everyone, not just the already fit, are staying active and improving their lifestyle.
We certainly have a lot of things in place to help you along in your healthy pursuits, so be sure to check with us if you think we can help. Even people who think they can't do anything have found they can spend time on a stationery bike or go into our pool to get some exercise. Surprisingly, from there, they find they want to do more and more.
Steve Komanecky has been working hard to get all of our sport camps in place for the summer. We will be having our usual Doubledays baseball camp in conjunction with the Auburn Doubledays baseball club. This always proves to be a popular event where the kids get to mingle with and learn from some of the professional players and coaches. We are also offering a basketball camp with Al Giannone, head coach of the Auburn varsity basketball team. These are just two of the sports camps that we will be providing.Others that will be offered are volleyball, softball and lacrosse. Be sure to check our website for all of our camps to find out when these are offered and what they are all about.
The Auburn YMCA is looking forward to our latest purchase of cardio equipment being delivered any day. We have ordered two new ellipticals, two new treadmills and two new step-climbers. The step-climbers are the first of their kind in this facility and should prove to be a great workout and a nice compliment to the rest of our cardio equipment.
Be sure to enjoy the sunshine, which we see so little of. Walk, golf, walk your dog and enjoy the weather.
