SYRACUSE -Bail has been set at $10,000 for a 49-year-old upstate New York woman charged in the death of her infant son 27 years ago.
Onondaga County Judge Joseph Fahey made the ruling Thursday morning in the case of Patricia Cooper, who was arrested last Thursday and charged with second-degree murder.
Defense attorney Richard Priest says he believes there were serious questions about the cause of death and DNA linking Cooper to the case.
Authorities say a comparison of DNA from cigarette butts in Cooper's trash and DNA from the dead baby showed there was a more than 99 percent likelihood that Cooper was the mother. The child had severe head injuries when his body was found discarded in a garbage can in 1981.
