The Montezuma Audubon Center will celebrate its first anniversary by hosting the second annual Wildlife Festival from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.Saturday, May 3. Admission is $1 and children under 12 are free.
The theme of the celebration is choosing green alternatives to reduce the human imprint on the natural world. The festival will highlight activities and information celebrating smart choices peopel can make today that will benefit tomorrow's wildlife.
The family fun festival will feature outdoor education activities, live animals, local artisans, presentations from wildlife experts, entertainment and food.
People will get a chance to meet Liberty, a live bald eagle; improve their yard for wildlife with Janet Allen; become a citizen scientist; try bird watching by boat excursions and wildflower and bird hikes; and watch Labrador retriever demonstrations.
Children's activities include making fish, crossing a monkey bridge, playing migration games, and discovering critters in the water.
Musical entertainment will be provided by Maddy Walsh and Mike Suave in the morning and the Muckland Crooners in the afternoon will accompany antics by 12-foot high stilted bird puppets and MAC, the bald eagle, who will hand out “high fives” all day.
National Grid is sponsoring this year's festival programming. Other sponsors include: Seneca Meadows, Inc., ITT Goulds Pumps and Friends of the Montezuma Wetlands Complex.
The Montezuma Wetlands Complex is critically important to migrating water birds. Audubon New York has recognized it as an Important Bird Area and a State Bird Conservation Area. The wetlands are a nationally recognized bird watching destination.
