Panthers battle back from seven runs down

Matt Janusz led the Port Byron baseball team to come-from-behind win over Red Creek 11-10 Friday.
The Panthers were down 9-2 heading into the fourth inning, but were able to keep the runs off the board and get the bats working.

“We just staged a rally.” Panthers coach Felix Mucedola said.

Janusz pitched 3 2-3 innings in relief, striking out eight to pick up the win. At the plate, he had a single and also knocked in a run. Tab Carmon started for the Panthers as he threw 1 2-3 innings and also contributed at the plate with two hits, including a triple and two RBIs. Jake Bennett also had a multi-hit game, recording a double and two RBIs. Kent Pitcher got on base with a single and also knocked a run in. Tyler Quanbeck had an RBI and a base-hit.

Matt Warran pitched 2-3 innings of work in the win.

Port Byron (3-3) hosts Weedsport Tuesday.

Southern Cayuga, third place

Jon Mosher took first place in the 100m (12.91) for the Chiefs to help them earn 61 points Thursday.

Griffon Farlow also came in first place in the 1600m (5:03.56). Adam Mandel finished in second place for the 100m (13.21) and third for the shot put with a throw of 35-0.

Andrew Dean, Mosher, Lucas Schonfeld and Farlow helped the Chiefs take third in the 4x400 relay (4:03). Dean also finished third in 1600m (5:36.47).

Schonfeld earned himself fourth place in the high jump (5-0) and sixth in the 400m (1:00.25). Sam Ayers came in fourth in the triple jump (28-2.75) and fifth in the long jump (14-8). Pat Redmond finished fourth for the 1600m (5:41).

Southern Cayuga, sixth place

Miriam Larson-Koester came in first place in the discus (97-4) as the Chiefs earned 30 points Thursday. Larson-Koester also set a new school record in the shot put (32-9), earning second place.

Megan Lawrence came in third place in the 100m (14.23). Lawrence, Ally Murphy, Emily Heslop and Adrianna Perez finished third in the 4x400 relay (4:56.88).
