The Cayuga County Legislature will delay voting on proposed changes to the job description for the county's director of Mental Health.
The Legislature was scheduled to vote on the changes at Tuesday's monthly business meeting. However, the vote has been pulled from the agenda, and so has a public hearing on the issue.
Currently, the law states that the Legislature can hire a new mental health director, and the Community Services Board has the authority to hire the director of community services for the mental health center. Both of those positions were held by David Blair before he retired.
The proposed changes would combine those titles into the director of Cayuga County Community Mental Health Services, who would serve at the pleasure of the County Legislature.
Legislative Chairman Roger Mills said the Legislature decided to pull the vote to “clean up” some of the language about the job qualifications. The vote could come up at a future meeting, or the governing body could call a special meeting for the public hearing and vote.
However, Mills said it is not likely that the issue will be scheduled for May's business meeting, as that meeting has a special noon start time for senior citizen's day.
“Some of the people who would want to come and speak on the issue would not be able to,” Mills said.
