Goofy shoes won't be necessary. The smell of fried food and beer won't linger in the vicinity. But a chuckle or two may still echo from the background in the instance of a gutter ball.
Circuit City will host a Wii bowling tournament Saturday.
“Bowling is a big thing around Auburn,” said Tom Crawford, events coordinator of Circuit City in Auburn. “And the Wii is very popular right now, so we decided to bring the two together.”
In Wii bowling, players hold a remote controller and wave it forward as they would a bowling ball.
The tournament will cost participants $5 to enter, but half of the proceeds will go to the Salvation Army in Auburn. The other half will be awarded to the top bowler of the day. Participants can sign up in the community area of the store or pay at the door the day of the tournament.
“We're a new store and we want to give back to the community,” Crawford said. “We're not just a company that comes in just to make money.”
Crawford explained that Circuit City is working in collaboration with various area businesses and community organizations to raise money for community events and charity.
“We have plenty more planned,” he added. “I grew up helping the Salvation Army. My dad was on the emergency disaster services team.”
Future fundraisers and events are planned for the Auburn Public Theater. Circuit City is also coordinating with other businesses, such as the Auburn Doubledays, to organize an auction to collect funds for community agencies.
“We just want to be able to give back to the community,” he said. “We want to bring events to the store to assist mostly the Auburn area, but also all over Cayuga County.”
