ALBANY - New York Lottery officials say they brought in $2.6 billion for education spending in the last fiscal year.
Incoming revenue totaled $7.5 billion. Most of that went to lottery payouts.
The portion allotted for schools accounts for more than 13 percent of state aid to education, which totaled $19.65 billion in 2007-08.
The lottery's payout to education has grown for the past seven years in a row.
Lottery Director Gordon Medenica says the lottery grew rapidly thanks to the increase in video lottery terminals at race tracks around the state.
He says traditional lottery games experienced almost no growth.
