Komanecky pitches Auburn baseball to victory

Steve Komanecky pitched the Auburn baseball team to a victory over Nottingham 11-4 Wednesday. Komanecky pitched five innings, sat down eight on strikeouts, walked two and allowed two hits while giving up one run.
Matt Wild came in for relief and threw two innings, striking out five, walking two, giving up two hits and allowing three runs - only one was earned.

Wild also went a perfect 3-for-3 at the plate, scoring two runs, walking twice and recording an RBI. Eddie Charles was 2-for-5 at the plate. Tim Locastro recorded three hits and Nick Ventura had two hits.

“It was a pretty good game for us offensively.” Maroons coach T.J. Gamba said.

The Maroons defense did their job, recording one error.

Auburn (4-2) hosts Lansing today in the Auburn High School Baseball Tournament at Falcon Park.

Newfield 32, Southern Cayuga 3

Kevin Lehtonen led the Chiefs with three runs and a walk. Chris Aguilar doubled.

Skaneateles 7, Trumansburg 2

Nick Pesarchick threw seven innings of work, fanning 11, walking two and giving up two earned runs.

At the plate he went 3-for-4, scoring two runs. Zach Augustine had three hits and also scored a run for the Lakers.

Devlen Murphy had a multi-hit game.

Marathon 15, Union Springs 8

Jim Burns threw four innings, allowing eight unearned runs.

Dave Wilczek pitched three innings. At the plate he picked up three hits, one RBI and scored a run.

Burns also had a multi-hit game as did Jared Bretherton. Bretherton also recorded an RBI.

Mike Chilson had a base hit and RBI for the Wolves.

Union Springs (1-4 overall, 1-1 in league) travels to Marathon Monday.

Port Byron 6, Jordan-Elbridge 4, eight innings

Tab Carmon led the Panthers off in the eighth inning with a double and would score on Kent Pitcher's double . Pitcher ended up scoring on an error.

Carmon had two hits and two RBIs. Pitcher and Matt Janusz both had multi-hit games. Jake Bennett and Dan Jefferds each picked up a base hit. Bennett threw 3 1-3 innings. Pitcher went four strong and Janusz went 2-3 of an inning.

The Eagles Teddy Hart threw five innings, striking out 11. Christian Berwind finished the rest on the mound. Zach Frost, Mike Ryan, Jeff Donofrio and Hart all had one hit. Berwind led the Eagles with two hits, including a double.

Port Byron (2-3) hosts Red Creek Friday.

SOFTBALL

Southern Cayuga 11, Newfield 1

Lianna May went 3-for-4, picked up a double, a home run and three RBIs. Julie Hewitt doubled.

May also pitched for the Chiefs, striking out eight and so did Hewitt as she sat down 10 on strikes. They both gave up one hit each.

Southern Cayuga (3-0) hosts Tioga today.

BOYS LACROSSE

Auburn 17, Rome Free Academy 7

Connor Entenmann led the Maroons with five goals and two assists.

Bob Brannigan finished with three goals and four assists. Matt Hoey had three goals and one assist. Mike Fandrich scored two and assisted on one. Matt Festa tallied two goals.

Andrew Chadderdon pitched in with one goal and two assists. Sean Hogan had one goal and one assist while Mike Tesorio had an assist.

Kevin Dyer saved two, Adam Perri had four saves and Sean Yates had one save also for the Maroons.

Auburn (6-1, 1-0) travels to Fayetteville-Manlius Friday.

GIRLS LACROSSE

Auburn 18, Rome Free Academy 2

Flannery Nangle led the Maroons with four goals and two assists.

Kimberly Neagle finished with three goals. Nicole Schattinger, Delaney Scollan, Chelsea Smith, and Christine Desocio all had two goals. Smith and Schattinger each had an assist.

Kate Aldrich, Taylor Baran and Abby Valentino finished with one goal. Nangle and Valentino assisted for goals also.

Brittney Baran had four saves and Stephanie Cator finished with three saves.

Auburn (5-2) hosts Fayetteville-Manlius today.

GIRLS TRACK AND FIELD

Tully Invitational

Moravia

Kelleyanne McElfresh came in first place for the novice 200m (29.4). Alicia McLaughlin placed second in the 400m hurdle (1:12.5) giving her a new personal best.

McElfresh, Aimee Glenister, Jessica Higgins and McLaughlin came in eighth for the sprint medley relay (4:58.9). Jen Cornwell took third in the shot put (33-11) and eighth in the discus (83-6).

Danielle Stayton came in third for the novice shot put (24-2.5) and fifth for the novice discus (66-2). Samantha Smith finished in sixth in both the novice 200m (32.5) and novice shot put (23-6). Claire Hunsinger finished fourth in the pentathlon (1,821).

Moravia participates in the Marathon Invitational today.
