ALBANY -- The New York Senate has confirmed Gov. David Paterson's nominee for state police superintendent, Harry Corbitt.
Corbitt replaces acting superintendent Preston Felton, who resigned in March soon after Paterson became governor following Gov. Eliot Spitzer's departure amid accusations he patronized a high-end prostitute.

Corbitt retired as a colonel from the state police in 2004. He previously served as deputy of internal affairs for the agency and held command positions with Troop E in central New York and with the Thruway troop.

The 60-year-old Army veteran was confirmed Wednesday, making him the state's first black state police superintendent. He'll be paid an annual salary of $136,000.
