It's not too late to get a bunch of your friends together and make up a team for our Bowl-A-Thon on Sunday, April 27 at Starlight Lanes. This should prove to be a fun-filled day with lots of great prizes, raffles and food. It is for a great cause as it benefits all of the children's programs at the Auburn YMCA-WEIU. Stop at the YMCA and get your registration form. Teams are made up of five people and each person has to raise $25 in pledges for their team. Getting your friends to spot you for a dollar a pin is one way to make your pledge, have your family each pay you a dollar for each pin you knock over or just donate $25 towards a worthy cause.
Last Wednesday, we held our annual meeting for the Auburn YMCA-WEIU at the Springside Inn. The food was excellent and we had a crowd of almost 180 people that attended. Our member of the year was Tom Crawford who has been a long standing and dedicated member. Tom has been involved on our fitness committee for a number of years and also a board member. We also see Tom here on a daily basis working out and of course, he has been an integral supporter of the Soap Box Derby. His entire family was able to be at the luncheon and applaud him on his honor. Congratulations from all of us here at the Auburn YMCA. You make this a better place because of all you do for us.
We held our ladder golf tournament this week for all adults. People may not know what this program is and it would be hard for me to describe it, but I encourage everyone to try it. It doesn't require a lot of skill and definitely doesn't take the time and concentration of a real golf game. Our big winner was Tracey Swietoniowski, who walked away with the big prize of a little tiny trophy. She and Nancy Wesselman battled it out for first place with a head to head competition. All in all we had a lot of fun and we only damaged the room slightly - just kidding Bill.
It doesn't seem possible that camp is coming up. We are already getting registrations for both Camp Y-Owasco and our school's out summer program. We have also gotten our first registration for the golf league. That will be starting before we know it so be sure to get your registrations for all summer activities as soon as possible.
This weekend is the Ice Breaker Soap Box Derby day from 9 a.m. to 11 p.m. on April 13 at North Division Street in front of Kubis Automotive. This is the first time that everyone tries out their cars and gets the kinks out. In a month, the annual Soap Box Derby will be held on May 24.
We started the next session of Use It and Lose It. We have seven teams with five people on each team. All of the weights are around 1,000 pounds cumulatively. Our next weigh in will be on Wednesday, April 17.
Spring break has started for the schools and the great exodus from Auburn to warmer climates has begun, For anyone who is away, hope you have a great time and for those who are still here, come see us at the Auburn YMCA, as we are also here.
