Drivers to and from Syracuse may experience some unusual delays as a result of projects scheduled this week at various highway locations.
On Wednesday, stoppages will occur on the state Thruway several times between 7 p.m. and midnight just west of Exit 36 as part of the Buckley Road Bridge project, according to the state Thruway Authority.
The passing lane in both directions at that site will be closed from 6 p.m. today to 6 a.m. Wednesday.
The state Thruway Authority also was planning to stop traffic at 10 a.m. today in both directions roughly three miles west of the Weedsport exit (Exit 40) for an overhead utility project.
Preliminary construction work in the city of Syracuse itself from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. today will reduce Interstate 690 westbound to a single lane from Midler Avenue to the exit for Interstate 81 North, according to the state Department of Transportation. The Teall Avenue ramp to I-690 will also be closed.
On Wednesday, the left lane of I-81 will be closed in both directions from the Harrison Street off-ramp to Park Street for pavement evaluation.
The northbound closure will run from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. and the southbound closure go from 9 a.m. and 3 p.m.
The DOT reminds drivers that fines are doubled for speeding in a work zone, and two or more speeding violations in a work zone could result in license suspension.
