HIT: To the kickoff of the Cayuga County Office of Tourism's “Teacups and Treasure Trail.” The trail, which will also run through Steuben and Ontario counties, will hopefully increase local tourism.
With high gas prices, a lot of people will take summer vacations closer to home, so this new campaign might help bring in tourists from around the state.
MISS: To the vandalism done to Auburn City Manager Mark Palesh's car in the city hall parking lot on Monday morning. Palesh, like many city managers through the years, may not be popular with every citizen and his decisions do not receive unanimous support. But if the vandalism was somehow related to Palesh's role as city manager, it was a cowardly way to make a point.
HIT: To Auburn native Doug Graney, who was named a top five educator by the National Education Association. Graney, who teaches history, political science and geography in Virginia, didn't forget his roots when he was honored. Graney said thanks to one of his former teachers at Auburn High School teacher, Gerald Martin, for his inspiration in becoming a teacher.
MISS: To the departure of Syracuse University men's basketball player Donte Greene to the NBA after only one season on the Hill.
Yes, Greene has every right to earn money for his family like any other person in this country, but for Orange fans, who suffered through injuries and inconsistent play last season, this is a huge blow.
Fans had high hopes that Greene would come back and that with Eric Devendorf and Andy Rautins recovering from injuries, the Orange would not only return to the NCAA Tournament, but make a deep run. But with promising freshmen coming aboard, Syracuse may still enjoy a fine season without Greene.
