Grace Fabian, a missionary to Papua New Guinea, visits with Carl Filer during the supper to start the 29th annual Missionary Conference at Scipio Baptist Church.
For the past 29 years, the Scipio Baptist Church has been inviting missionaries from around the world to share their experiences and bask in the one thing they all have in common #- living by the word of God.

“Our goal is to share in the word of God, and in the word of the Bible,” said Mary Rapp, chairperson of the missions committee, during the 29th annual fellowship dinner held at the Scipio Baptist Church, in Scipio, Friday evening. “It is a chance to spread the word of missions.”

The conference is a six day celebration in missions, and living by the word of God and the Bible.

“We hope to inspire our members and guests to go out and serve in their communities,” Rapp said. “That is what it is all about really, it is about service to fellow human beings and reaching out to other people.”

As part of the conference, the church youth group and their guests will be taking a trip into Auburn to volunteer at a soup kitchen.

Each year several missionaries from around the world are invited to the

conference to share the work that they do.

¯“Being a missionary is not like having a job where you get a paycheck each week,” Rapp said. “The work that they do is from their hearts and they rely on the aid of their fellow churches to help them.”

¯Missionaries that will be in attendance at the conference include: Walid Bitar, who serves in Ottawa, Canada, with Evangelical Baptist Missions; Grace Fabian, who is currently retired but served as a missionary translating the Bible in Papua, New Guinea, with Wycliffe Bible Translators; Judy Rapp serves in the Mission Field Surveying in East Asia with Southern Baptist Convention; Mark Robinson, who is the director of Jewish Awareness Ministries and the editor of the Israel's Messenger; George and Theresa Mekeel, with the Camp and Children's Ministry at Cortland Bible Club Camp with BCM International.

¯According to Rapp, George Mekeel grew up as a member of the Scipio Baptist Church congregation.

¯The Missions Conference will hold activities and worship services through Wednesday, April 16, in which Rapp said that anyone is welcome to attend.
