POPLAR RIDGE - Julie Hewitt and Lianna May combined for a no-hitter for the Southern Cayuga softball team in an easy 17-0 win over Odessa-Montour on Wednesday.
Hewitt went five innings, throwing eight strikeouts and allowing just three walks in her first start of the season. May struck out the side in her inning of work.
Defensively, the Chiefs didn't commit an error. At the plate, Hewitt was just as impressive, scoring a double and three RBIs.
Beth Rocker also had three RBIs and a double, May belted out two hits, including a double and Lindsey Doeing also roped two hits.
Kayla Hildreth also scored a triple.
Cato-Meridian 12, Port Byron 2
Ashley Thomas tossed eight strikeouts in her complete game win. Amy Thomas, Michelle Townsend and Kristi Garrigan each belted a home run in the win.
Danielle Halstead and Chelsea Terpening each got three hits, while Meghan Meeks and Julia Pratt both had one for the Blue Devils (2-3)
Britney Helmer got the loss for the Panthers, despite three strikeouts in five innings.
Melissa Deyo finished the game, with two strikeouts in two innings. Deyo also led the Panthers at the plate with four hits and three stolen bases.
Shelby Gilbert hit a solo home run, while Kara Pitcher had an RBI and Danielle Murnane also got a hit.
Solvay 3, Skaneateles 1
With just two errors, the Lakers played well against the defending Section III, Class B champs.
Alex Hughes pitched a good game, allowing eight small hits and two earned runs. Emily Devins had the Lakers lone hit and Alexis Jones scored the team's run after stealing third base and a Solvay overthrow to send her home.
Lansing 10, Moravia 6
Shealena Marnell went 2-for-4, with one run in the Blue Devils' loss. Stephanie Hargett scored two runs and Hannah Mackey scored once and had one stolen base.
Jessica Kehoe pitched all six innings for Moravia, with two strikeouts and three walks. Though they committed five errors, the Blue Devils turned two double plays.
Thomas A Edison 12, Union Springs 0
Jillian Thomas threw six strikeouts in her complete game effort. Rachel Johnston Kelly Pinckney and Hannah Moniz each got a hit.
Bishop Ludden 10, Jordan-Elbridge 2
Erika Peterson roped two of the Eagles' three hits, while Alicia Andrianos hit an RBI triple.
Jenn Gasparek got the loss despite seven strikeouts and just two walks given up. The Eagles committed five errors behind her.
BASEBALL
Port Byron 6, Cato-Meridian 5
The Panthers got their first win of the season behind the arms of Tab Carmen (four innings) and Kent Pitcher, who got the win.
Port Byron scored two runs in the fifth on bases loaded errors to break up a 4-4 tie.
The Blue Devils had a chance to tie the game again in the seventh with the tying run on third with two outs, but a ground out ended the rally.
Tyler Quanbeck and Matt Warran each smacked doubles in the win, though Warran's got him and RBI. Pitcher also scored an RBI on two hits.
For the Blue Devils, Brandon Bardo got the loss on the mound. Preston Dennison led the offense with two hits. Erik Tuttle, Ethan Pratt and Matt Schmitt each roped a single.
Henninger 3, Auburn 2
Bob Buckley and Andrew Sanders pitched well in the loss. Auburn managed five hits, including an Ed Charles home run in the sixth.
Henninger's scores were made up of two home runs.
Solvay 7, Skaneateles 6
Shawn Cooney led off the sixth with a triple to break up Solvay's no-hitter and sparked a comeback when the Lakers were down 7-1, but the effort fell just short. Jake Rothenburg got one strikeout in the start and Zach Augustine pitched in relief.

David Wilczek picked up the loss and Jared Bretherton pitched well in relief.
Jimmy Burns and Jake Giancola each had RBI singles while Andy Riester had an RBI.
The Wolves (0-3) host Moravia Friday.
