Their latest undertaking, the creation of the “Teacups and Treasures Trail” is a collaborated venture between Cayuga, Steuben and Ontario counties.
“We wanted to create a unique and fun experience that was just different,” said Cayuga County Office of Tourism Executive Director Meg Vanek during the opening reception for the trail held at The Center, in Auburn, Tuesday afternoon. “I think that it will be something that people will find to be a fun thing to do.”
The theme for the opening tea reception was the Mad Hatter's tea party,
complete with decorations, fresh-brewed tea, and traditional teatime snacks.
Stops along the trail will include museums, inns, teashops, markets, farms, and other places that exude themed aspects of the Finger Lakes region.
Those themed aspects include the art of the front porch, teacups and the art of giving and having tea and Tiffany glass and other glass-related arts.
“These are all unique aspects of the Finger Lakes,” Vanek said.
Vanek said that all three counties are holding their own opening reception tea party to kick off the new trail on the same day and time.
At the start of the trail visitors can expect to receive a welcome packet that includes a map of various stops along the trail, a membership card, and a silver bracelet.
At each stop along the trail visitors will receive a glass bead to add to their bracelet.
“By adding each bead to the bracelet visitors will be creating a piece of artwork as they enjoy the trail,” Vanek said.
Trail stops in Cayuga County include, The Center, Cayuga Museum, Willard Memorial Chapel, Seward House, Hummingbird's Home Bed and Breakfast, and Cleveland's Antiques.
In addition to local promotions, Vanek said that they will be campaigning in the greater New York City area among other places.
The ExploreNYarts.com is an effort between the Cayuga, Steuben, and Ontario counties Convention and Visitors Bureaus, through a matching grant program from the New York State division of Tourism.
