Local and national officials are seeking to bring a temporary Social Security presence to Memorial City Hall. According to a statement released Wednesday, Auburn Mayor Michael Quill and U.S. Rep. Michael Arcuri are requesting the Social Security Agency move the local contact station to city hall, located at 24 South St.
The two officials have each sent a letter to the commissioner of the Social Security Administration asking the center be relocated from the Boyle Senior Center. The new location would offer more parking, a private meeting room, security and Internet service, according to the statement.
The Auburn contact center was set up at the Boyle Center after the city's Social Security office was closed in October.
"This is a great opportunity for the Social Security Administration to enhance access to a widely utilized and necessary government resource," Quill stated in the release. "The City of Auburn welcomes the chance to work with Congressman Arcuri to bring Social Security Services for our citizens."
