To the parents of our children at Weedsport Central School I would like for you to join us and other concerned parents at the next school board meeting tonight at 7:30.
This has to do with the recent decision by the administration to remove not only our daughter from the track team but others as well.
The current un-written policy of the administration is to remove a child from a team due to spending time with their family; this is not what the current athletic handbook states. The current handbook states that the child is to let their coach know of a possible conflict within the first two days of practice.
Currently our administration is punishing our children for the entire season simply because they were spending time with their family. What is the benefit of this policy?
I grew up in this town and went to school at Weedsport and never saw this type of policy. We need to be encouraging our children to enjoy the various sports provided at Weedsport and not create the win at all cost mentality.
In this day of less than desirable professional sports figures we need to encourage family values and education. Again this destructive policy has not only occurred this season but has happened all too often in the past as well.
We need to have our voice heard and have this negative policy changed to allow the children of Weedsport to participate and enjoy their families and school sports without fear of being kicked off a team.
Again, please join us at the next board of education meeting; your support will only benefit all of our children.
