Nevidomsky wins three events, Weedsport track and field cruises

Zachary Nevidomsky led the Weedsport boys track and field team, finishing in first place in three events - the long jump (19-7), the triple jump (37-5) and the high jump (5-10) - in a 100-30 victory over Fabius Pompey Monday.
Jim Bos also had three first-place finishes, winning with the 4x800 relay team (9:21), the 400m (55.5), and as a part of the 4x400 relay team (3:54).

Also on the 4x800m relay team was Zachary Brown, John Bos and Zachary Field.

The members of the 4x400m relay team was Jim Bos, Oliver Jordan, Field and Jordan Petrocci.

Field finished in first place in the 800m (2:20).

Oliver Jordan won the shot put for the Warriors (42-9).

Petrocci earned another first-place finish in the 110m high hurdles (17-5).

The 4x400m relay team finished in first for the Warriors (48.9) with members Jesse Schooley, Ethan Gillette, Tim Roden and Craig Mietz.

Also winning for the Warriors, Abe Jordan finished first in the 400m intermediate hurdles (66-2), Michael Greer won the 3200m (11:06), Jacob Ekross won the discus (100-3) and the pole vault was won by Dominic Galletta (9-0).

The Warriors (2-0) travel to face Cato-Meridian Wednesday.

Cato-Meridian 95, Hannibal 42

Andrew Gillis led the Blue Devils with four first-place finishes, winning the 100m dash (11.5), earning a first-place finish in the 4x100m relay (48.5), the 200m (24.5) and in the triple jump (37-10).

The members of the 4x100m relay team were Gillis, Joe Bowden, Mike Davison and John Murphy.

Bowden was also a member of the winning 4x400m relay team (4:08) which also included Wes Sweetman, Ivan Rojo and Murphy. Bowden also finished first in the pole vault (8-0).

The 4x800 relay team for the Blue Devils finished first (10:05) with Rojo, Tom Klaben, Joe Mattice and Ben Mesmer.

Also winning for the Blue Devils, Mattice won the 800m (2:28), Davison won the long jump (17-4), Klaben finished first in the high jump (5-2) and A.J. Rothenburg recorded a first place finish in the shotput (35-4).

The Blue Devils (1-0) host Weedsport Wednesday.

GIRLS TRACK AND FIELD

Cato-Meridian 81, Hannibal 61

Somer Stuter led the Blue Devils with four first-place finishes, the 100m high hurdles (18.2), as a member of the 4x100m relay team (59.5), in the long jump (13-10) and in the triple jump (30-1).

The members of the 4x100m relay team was Stuter, Tara Pickard, Erin Grant and Jessica Griffiths.

Griffiths also tallied wins in the 400m (74.2) and as a part of the 4x400m relay team (4:58.5) including Grant, Autumn Bullard and Becca Myers.

Myers also recorded first place finishes in the 1500m (6:15) and with the 4x800m relay team (12:01.2) with Bullard, Grant and Chelsea Nixon.

Also winning for the Blue Devils, Pickard finished first in the 400m hurdles (1.25) and Aubrey Campbell won the high jump (4-6).

The Blue Devils (1-0) compete at home against Weedsport Wednesday.

Weedsport 81, Fabius-Pompey 42

Ashley Edmunds led the Warriors recording first-place finishes in the 3000m (13:05.6), the 400m hurdles (1:24.6), as a part of the 4x800 relay team (11:38.6) and the 4x400m relay team (5:06).

The 4x800 relay team also included Alyssa O'Bryan, Amy Sanchez and Erin Daly.

O'Bryan and Sanchez were also part of the 4x400m relay team including Edmunds and Allison Roosa.

O'Bryan also finished first in the high jump (4-8).

Sanchez had another first place finish in the 1500m (5:46.5).

Also winning for the Blue Devils, Rosa won the discus (70-0.5), Daly finished first in the 800m (2:44.6), Alyssa Field won the triple jump (26-8) and the 100m hurdles (18.9) and Hammersley won the shotput (29-6) and the pole vault (7 ft.).

Weedsport (2-0) travel to Cato-Meridian Wednesday.

SOFTBALL

Cato-Meridian 13, Weedsport 7

Winning pitcher for the Blue Devils was Ashley Thomas who pitched seven innings with three hits, six strikeouts, seven walks and seven runs.

Offensively for the Blue Devils, Michelle Townsend went 3-for-3, Danielle Halstead went 4-for-5 with three runs and one RBI, Ashley Thomas was 4-for-4 with three runs, two doubles and four RBIs, Meghan Meeks went 3-for-3 with one double and 2 RBIs, Amy Thomas was 2-for-4 with one triple, a home run and four RBIs, Brandylyn Townsend went 2-for-4 at the plate and Kristi Garrigan was 2-for-4.

The Blue Devils (2-1) play today at Southern Cayuga.

On Sunday, the Blue Devils played in the Mudville Tournament beating Watertown in their first game, 6-5.

Ashley Thomas was the winning pitcher, leading the Blue Devils, pitching seven innings, with three hits, six strike-outs, two walks and five runs, none earned.

Hitting for the Blue Devils, Michelle Townsend had three hits and one double, Chelsea Townsend earned three hits, one double and one RBI in her debut game on the varsity squad and Kayla VanNorstrand pinched hit in the eighth with a base hit scoring the winning run.

In the second game of the tournament, the Blue Devils lost to General Brown, 12-2.

Amy Thomas was the losing pitcher after pitching six innings, with seven hits, three strikeouts, seven walks and 12 runs.

Hitting for the Blue Devils was Michelle Townsend (3-4) with one double and Amy Thomas (2-3) with a double.

Union Springs 5, Dryden 4 OT

The winning pitcher for the Wolves, Jillian Thomas pitched the entire extra-inning game and allowed two hits and 10 strikeouts.

Leading the Wolves was Rachel Johnston who had two hits and singled home the winning run in the top of the eighth inning.

Also helping out the offense for the Wolves, Jaimi Jones had three hits and Kelly Pinckney and Hannah Moniz both had two hits.

The Wolves (2-0) play Wednesday at home against Thomas A. Edison.

Bishop Ludden 5, Skaneateles 2

Bishop Ludden had only one earned run but the Lakers finished with 10 errors.

The losing pitcher was Alex Hughes who gave up four hits, five strikeouts and walked three batters. On offense, Hughes had two hits.

The other two hits for the Lakers came from Allison Goetzmann and Terry Blessing who doubled in the second inning and earned one RBI.

The Lakers (0-1) play at Solvay Wednesday.

Trumansburg 9, Moravia 0

The Blue Devils had six errors in the loss with the losing pitcher, Jessica Kehoe, throwing six strikeouts, two walks and hitting one batter.

The Blue Devils will play at Lansing on Wednesday.

Auburn 8, Corcoran 3

The Maroons scored at least one run in each inning, except the second.

Kelly Grinnell paced the Maroons' offense with three hits and two RBIs while Sam Bruno, Jamie Bruno and Lauren Fedyshyn earned two hits each.

The winning pitcher was Brittney Babcock who threw an eight-hitter and struck out seven.

Shannon McCormick and Nikki Neagle led an errorless defense.

The JV team also improved their record (1-1) with a 19-0 win over Corcoran.

Seventh grader Ali VanGiesen tossed a no-hitter with 15 strikeouts.

Katie Lupo, Haley Jordan and Nicole Baim led the offense with three hits each.

Westhill 4, Jordan-Elbridge 2

The losing pitcher for the Eagles was Jenn Gasparek who allowed 11 hits, seven runs and seven strikeouts.

Pacing the Eagles was Lindsy Geery with one hit and one RBI, Erika Peterson earned one hit and one run and Sarah Fordyce contributed the other run.

The Eagles had two hits and four errors in the loss.

BASEBALL

Westhill 10, Jordan-Elbridge 1

Cody Holbrook was hit by a pitch to bring in Teddy Hart scoring the only run for the Eagles as Westhill tossed a no-hitter.

The Eagles (0-1) play at Christian Brothers Academy Friday.

Trumansburg 9, Moravia 1

Trumansburg scored eight of its runs in the bottom of the fourth against the Blue Devils.

The losing pitcher was Justin Stanton who pitched five innings, throwing three strikeouts, allowing four hits and five walks. He also went 2-for-3 at the plate.

The other hit for the Blue Devils was by Dillon Langtry.

The Blue Devils (2-1) play at Lansing Wednesday.

Dryden 28, Union Springs 2

The Wolves only tallied one hit by Andy Klock who also had one RBI and one stolen base.

Peter Ward and Mike Chilson scored one run each for the Wolves.

The losing pitcher, Jim Burns pitched two innings and threw three strikeouts for the Wolves.

The Wolves (0-2) play Thomas Edison Wednesday.

Auburn 8, Corcoran 4

Eric Conway dominated for the Maroons as the winning pitcher, finishing with 11 strikeouts, three walks, four hits and four runs.

Andrew Sanders earned the save, coming in at the sixth with the bases loaded and getting the Maroons out of the jam. Sanders threw one strikeout and walked one at the plate.

Matt Wild caught the out in center field with the bases loaded along with leading the Maroons offensively (2-for-4) with a triple, a home run and three RBIs.

The Maroons tallied nine hits from seven different batters.

Nick Ventura had one RBI and played great defensively for the Maroons.

Noah Donch earned one double and one RBI.

“It was a stellar game with only three errors,” Maroons head coach T.J. Gamba said. “Good effort with great pitching, defense and timely hitting. Hopefully we will keep moving in the right direction.”

The Maroons (2-0) play at Henninger Wednesday.

GIRLS LACROSSE

Skaneateles 16, Cazenovia 12

Shannon Tierney led the Lakers with six goals and two assists.

Also scoring for the Lakers, Jenna Lotkowictz earned three goals and one assist, Emma Hueber and Kelsey Nangle both scored two goals and one assist, Laura Trenti had one goal and one assist, Maddy Morrissey earned one goal, Kat Pille tallied one goal, Lindsay Angelillo and Allison Steckel each finished with one assist.

Heather Mullen collected eight saves.

The Lakers (1-1) play at Marcellus Wednesday.
