The White House takes care of its friends at the taxpayers' expense. Dick Cheney gets no-bid contracts for Halliburton and George Bush gets tax breaks for the oil companies.
America's judges, lawyers, politicians, bureaucrats and a good deal of media are destroying America, a country that was formed by God-loving people. The socialists do not believe in God, only total control.
An old but very true maxim is that Republicans put their family, country and God far ahead of the Republican party but Democrats do just the opposite, putting their party way ahead of family, country and God. Proof of this is the way that McNabb and the firemen are putting the civil service organization far ahead of the best interests of the taxpayers of this community.

I believe that the Bush administration has a great deal to do with the high price of gasoline. However, even though the oil companies are getting tax breaks, I believe that if our Washington representatives are inundated with letters, e-mails, etc. from their constituents voicing their concern for rising prices, maybe we have a chance to make the oil companies reduce gas prices. I am doing my part to conserve gas by keeping the speedometer at 55 mph on the interstates. Yes, I am being passed by those traveling over the posted speed limits (65-75, depending on the state I'm in), but at least I'm trying to help conserve my gas usage.
Georgie's time is getting short; we can only wait and hope that the next one will be more sympathetic to the American people. "

WHERE TO BUY USA GAS, THIS IS VERY IMPORTANT TO KNOW. READ ON
Gas rationing in the 80's worked even though we grumbled about it. It might even be good for us! The Saudis are boycotting American goods. We should return the favor.
An interesting thought is to boycott their GAS. < BR>
Every time you fill up the car, you can avoid putting more money into the coffers of Saudi Arabia. Just buy from gas companies that don't import their oil from the Saudis.
Nothing is more frustrating than the feeling that every time I fill-up the tank, I am sending my money to people who are trying to kill me, my family, and my friends.
I thought it might be interesting for you to know which oil companies are the best to buy gas from and which major companies import Middle Eastern oil.
These companies import Middle Eastern oil:
Shell...........................205,742,000 barrels
Chevron/Texaco.........144,332,000 barrels
Exxon /Mobil...............130,082,000 barrels &nbs p;
Marathon/Speedway... 117,740,000 barrels
Amoco............................62,231,000 barrels
Citgo gas is from South America, from a Dictator who hates Americans. If you do the math at $30/barrel, these imports amount to over $18 BILLION! (oil is now $90 - $100 a barrel
Here are some large companies that do not import Middle Eastern oil:
Sunoco..................0 barrels
Conoco..................0 barrels
Sinclair.................0 barrels
B P/Phillips............0 barrels
Hess.......................0 barrels
ARC0....................0 barrels
If you go to Sunoco.com, you will get a list of the station locations near you. All of this information is available from the Department of Energy and each is required to state
whe re they get their oil and how much they are importing. But to have an impact, we need to reach literally millions of gas buyers. It's really simple to do.

U.S. Cred at Stake in Miami Terrorism Trial
With jury deliberations resuming today in the trial of six Miami men accused of planning an attack on Chicago's Sears Tower, legal experts say the outcome will put the credibility of U.S. efforts to crack down on "homegrown terrorists" very much at stake.
The case is "more hype than evidence," Neal Sonnett, past president of the National Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers, told ABCNews.com, and it's a viable argument that the government's informant "created the crime."
...
But serious questions of entrapment plagued the men's first trial, which resulted in a deadlocked jury last December and the acquittal of a seventh defendant.
...
"It's clear that these folks were just trying to get some money," legal expert Sonnett said. "They didn't have the wherewithal; they didn't have the training; they didn't have the experience; they didn't have the equipment to bring off a sophisticated plot to blow up the Sears Tower."
"I think there is a real issue of prosecutorial discretion here. Was this worth prosecuting a second time?" law professor Winick asked. "

The price of oil would not be so high if the oil companies were not so greedy -- they have outrageous profits, pay their execs more than professional athletes (most of whom are not intrinsically worth what they are paid either) and the American public gets scr*wed coming and going. THAT'S one of the sources of all our trouble, not the last little defense of the remaining corners of the environment which aren't already trashed.
Why should we sacrifice our non-renewable environment just to briefly (in the larger scope of the world) put off the inevitable day when we reach the end and run out of this particular fuel resource? We're going to run out anyway, and it just compounds the problem if we destroy the environment as well.
Instead, we should be pushing harder to find a truly safe and non-destructive form of energy (hint: wind turbines are not the answer any more than nuclear).
Time to hit the hay in Arlington.... "

"Thank you for your note and your reflections on the issues we Americans face.
For the past three decades the US Government has prohibited the oil companies in America from exploring or producing oil in 85 per cent of the US outer continental shelf and on hundreds of millions of acres of Federal Lands. During these years America has gone from producing 75 per cent of its oil needs from America's own resources to producing 35 percent. The oil companies make up the difference by importing crude oil from other countries. The rest of the world competes for this foreign crude, driving the crude oil price from about $25 per barrel six years ago to over $100 per barrel today.
The oil companies, including Shell, have been asking the US Government for many years to allow us to explore and produce America's own oil. We have been denied over and over again.
Finally in late 2006 a very small additional portion of the Gulf of Mexico, less than 1 per cent of the US outer continental shelf, was opened for new exploration.
The real problem is 30 years of "off limits" policy by the US Government, called a Congressional Moratorium. Many elected officials like to blame the oil companies for the problem. However if the companies are not allowed to explore and drill for oil, and US production declines, which it has, it seems like the policy of the US Government is to blame. No matter how many elected officials blame the oil companies, facts are facts. We are producing less because of the government's policies. The current profits of Shell in the US nonetheless are going back into the business dollar for dollar to drill where we can, which is more expensive and less productive than drilling where we are not allowed to drill. If we reduced our profits to reduce prices, in a short time there would be even less oil produced in America, driving imports and prices even higher.
We will continue to ask Congress to lift its ban on exploring and drilling for more American oil and invite all Americans to join us. More oil is the only solution to high prices, unless all Americans changed their living standards to use less oil, which is totally unnecessary if we were allowed to produce in the off limits areas of our country.
Best wishes,
John

Karl, I'm pretty sure that although Two Cents is only PUBLISHED online, they take input for the starter comments above from regular letters, e-mail and phone calls. I'm pretty sure I saw that somewhere - maybe in the print paper in the area where Two Cents used to be.
The sad thing there is that some bozo with an obnoxious dumb-headed idea (IMO) can blast off his/her mouth and never see a word of rebuttal -- because the person may well never read the online version. That makes for irresponsible hit-n-run behavior, because they never see the consequences of their words in action.
We used to have engagement of ideas and discussion between the techno haves and have-nots, and now we have a new barrier, thanks to this dumb policy to drop Two Cents from the print.

I was raised in Auburn and folks here are not in the least how you depict them. Auburn had been for many lifetimes a place for family, community spirit, and a great place to raise your children. If the elderly are concerned about their safety, they have a good reason. We try not to judge others and are willing to help those in need, even drug users.
Auburn has been and can become once again the wonderful place so many remember. It's time to strengthen our police force, change laws, and clear out the criminals that come from other areas and put them where they belong.
I'll pray for your soul as I pray for the return to a safe and wonderful Auburn. "
Sam, I don't need you to pray for me. I was speaking of the rapid epidemic that has plagued Auburn for the last 20 yrs. I have never used crack. A lot of my friends have. I was more of a Psychedelic/pot head kind of person. A little bit about me.... My house was burgularized back in 1999. The thieves walked right by $2500 worth of music gear. They opted for jewelry that belonged to my, then wife. Thieves not, but crackheads in search of something to trade a dealer for, yes. Sam, Auburn used to be a pretty decent town, but ever since there was a law passed that the prisoners that reside on State Street can have their families come up and live here on the big Welfare and government crutches, this town has gone to the toilet. I am glad I left. So when I make comments about crack addiction, don't pray for me. I am not a mindless religious fool. Save your prayers for whatever you wish. Sam I am , if you want to do something, don't pray, interact and make a solution. Praying, my friend will not work. "
