Prostitution is legal in the United States (Las Vegas and many other cities under the guise of “Escort Service”). Like any occupation, there can be mutually beneficial relationships and exploitive ones. Like it or not, when you get to the level of “call girl” the two people involved are getting what they want. The more I thought about Spitzer's fall from grace, the more I realize how hopelessly manipulated the American public is. People really aren't that hung up on what consenting adults do, but we're constantly bombarded with mind-controlling stories that make us believe we do.
If I was Spitzer, this is what I would have said at the press conference:
(... after admissions, expressions of remorse, accepting of responsibility, and profuse apologies to the family, the public, etc.)
“However, I didn't hurt anyone beyond my family. We have a sitting president who has dragged the entire nation into hell and Nancy Pelosi says impeachment is off the table. I enjoyed the company of a young lady and you're calling for my head.
“Thousands of American lives are being taken and broken, billions of dollars are being squandered, the American name is now mud on the world stage, millions, yes millions of Iraqis have either been killed or displaced; all because of lies. And you want to impeach me. The war profiteering by Cheney and Co. is the most obscene in the history of man while our returning soldiers are treated like dirt. Our own infrastructure is crumbling while Haliburton moved its headquarters to Qatar to escape paying taxes on the billions it's making on this war, and you want me to step down.
“When George Bush steps down, I'll step down. Tens of millions of New Yorkers now know that I am not a saint but still know that I am fighting for good in one of the most corrupt state capitols in the country. Go ahead and impeach me and let the public know how spineless and shallow you are.”

Yeah Chris, just like Pelosi would impeach the president if the Dems took the house.
I have a problem with outsourcing any of this stuff to a huge corporation, especially when they are not American corporations (by virture of not paying taxes on their profits).
Still haven't answered my question about the "incubator babies" Chris. "

Do you have the same problem with Halliburton when they were hired by the Clinton admin to do the same type of work in Somalia and in the Balkans?
Or by FDR or LBJ? Can you name another US company that can do the things and on the same scale that Halliburton can do? If Halliburton or KBR isn't there, who will replace them? My guess it would be a heck of a lot more troops. "

It was only PARTLY true. READ the official Congressional Research Service info on it. The Wiki entry is only part of the story, and proves he is lying. GET IT NOW?
Of course not. What else is new? "

Bodo, Cheney RETIRED from the company in 2000. What happened after that had nothing to do with the VP.
And really, if there were a conflict of interest with regard to his stocks...don't you think that with all the liberal/leftist hatred of the man, someone, somewhere, would have found the goods by now? "

They don't like to dig deeper or look at the overall picture beause that just might taint the "lies" they do believe! ""
CM, READ my posts as well as budobrubbie's, and then follow the links. Actually READ what's there, then review your comments, and then look in the mirror. "

Here is a link which takes Cheney's claim to task and proves him to be a liar. This is confirmed by the Congressional Research Service.

Dick Cheney, and KBR Haliburton - Real Americans.
http://www.halliburtonwatch.org/about_hal/chronology.html
It is revealed that while Vice President Cheney was Halliburton's CEO, the number of its subsidiary companies in offshore tax havens increased from 9 (in 1995) to 44 (in 1999). One of these subsidiaries (Halliburton Products and Services Ltd.), incorporated in the Caiman Islands, is used since 2000 to get around sanctions on doing business in Iran.41 At the same time, Halliburton's federal taxes dropped dramatically from $302 million in 1998 to an $85 million rebate in 1999.42
Despite these revelations, the company continues to be awarded massive government contracts, including a new 10-year deal with the Army with no lid on potential costs. In the year 2002 alone, Brown & Root received $1.3 billion for services to the U.S. government.43 These services include a $115 million contract to design and construct an embassy compound in Afghanistan; $37.3 million to build 816 detention cells at Guantanamo Bay "

As far as any resolution binding on Hussein, first let me ask you if we are so intent on enforcing UN resolutions, why don't we invade Israel? There are long-standing resolutions against their occupation.
The fact of the matter is is that the resolution authorized the war on the grounds that Hussein was proven to have illegal WMD. It was never proven that he did posess them at the time, and the weapons inspectors certified this.
I see you still did not bother to check out google for "iraq war" + illegality on google. Am I right Ms Coulter? "

By democratizing Iraq we will help to stabilize oil pricing and it will give us some leverage over the Saudis by influencing Iraqi oil reserves (since most libs state that it was a "war for oil-right?). GWB looking out for US interests?
My God, how horrible is that...
I hope you are doing your part by not using any heating oil, driving a car, riding on public transportation or any trips on a plane. Ride your bike, grow your own food, don't use any plastics (because its made from petroleum products you know).

You touch on all the lame and tired liberal talking points...Halliburton, war profiteering, impeachment. Millions of Iraqis have been displaced and many are moving back and although the picture is far from perfect, things are definately changing for the better.
As far as W "taking lives", during the utopian peacetime of Bill Clinton's term, we lost 4302 service personnel (and there wasn't even a war, go figure). As far as your completely incorrect assumption about Cheney, Cheney retired from the company during the 2000 U.S. presidential election. Also, before entering office in 2001, Cheney bought an insurance policy that guaranteed a fixed amount of deferred payments from Halliburton each year for five years so that the payments would not depend on the company's fortunes. He is legally bound by an agreement he signed which turns over power of attorney to a trust administrator to sell the options at some future time and to give the after-tax profits to three charities. The agreement specifies that 40% will go to the University of Wyoming (in Cheney's home state), 40% will go to George Washington University's medical faculty to be used for tax-exempt charitable purposes, and 20% will go to Capital Partners for Education. The agreement states that it is "irrevocable and may not be terminated, waived or amended," preventing Cheney from taking back the options at a later date. Maybe you should actually do some reading before you write these uniformed letters to the editor.
