  • City leaders show no respect for firefighters
    Minimum staffing for the Auburn Fire Department has been a hot button issue for some time now. The argument that the current minimum of 15 (NFPA Recommended) has caused large expenditures for overtime is questionable at best. These figures could be just as high with a minimum of 14.

  • Auburn has long way to go to improve its downtown
    The Auburn downtown is much brighter now, due to the fact that someone has seen the “light.” Wow! What a great sight of improvement to finally see that the street-lamp posts are now placed, turned the way that they should have been installed originally. My compliments to whomever made the decision to correct those beautiful lamp posts now facing the traffic and pedestrians going through downtown Genesee Street in Auburn. I do hope that the rest of the lighting posts will be correctly turned to provide more brightness. Let there be light.

  • Potential hazards posed by turf not worth the risks
    After reading Alyssa Sunkin's February article in The Citizen about an artificial turf field proposed for the Auburn Enlarged City School District, noting that a vote would occur in May, I assumed that the public would have ample time to become informed. To be well-informed is to cast a negative vote. Knowledge of research showing serious children's injuries, infectious disease and long-term illnesses, as well as environmental degradation has helped defeat artificial turf elsewhere.

  • Dr. Palmer was asset to area health-care needs
    Six years ago, Auburn welcomed a new OB/GYN to its community by the name of Dr. Kenneth Palmer. Upon approaching him, he immediately signed up to be a participating provider in a very important program: the Cayuga County Healthy Men and Women Partnership.
